Guest performances at Southern Adventist University
Special musical events open to the community are scheduled on the Collegedale campus of Southern Adventist University tonight, March 15, and on Sunday, March 18.
› The St. Louis Brass Experience an evening of fun with brass when the St. Louis Brass ensemble performs today at 7 p. m. in Iles P. E. Center, 4870 University Drive.
Their program will feature selections from composer Astor Piazolla, including “Libertango,” a new “Tribute to Pops” jazz medley along with popular favorites such “St. Louis Blues.”
“We have a l ot of fun with the audience,” says trombonist Melvyn Jernigan. “It starts off kind of straight and then gets l i ghter as we go along.”
Founded in 1964, the St. Louis Brass was originally formed by members of the St. Louis Symphony to play children’s concerts. More than 50 years later, the quintet still plays concert tours across the United States and internationally each year.
Admission is $5 per person or free with a valid university ID.

› Southern Adventist University Symphony Orchestra
Kimberly Marshall, Arizona State University professor and organist, will j oin the Southern Adventist University Symphony Orchestra for a free performance on Sunday at 7: 30 p. m. in Collegedale Seventh- day Adventist Church, 4829 College Drive.
The orchestra, conducted by Laurie Redmer Minner, will open its performance with “Dialogues for Organ and Strings” by Margaret Vardell Sandresky, followed by Toccata Festiva for Organ and Orchestra, op. 36 by Samuel Barber.
The evening will conclude with a performance of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2 in E minor, op. 27.
