TEN EVENTS FOR ST. PATRICK'S DAY FUN

If everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, as the old saying claims, there will be a lot of wearin’ of the green on Saturday, March 17.

Ten St. Patrick’s Day events are scheduled around town — and that’s no blarney. From parades and parties to the St. Paddy’s 7K, there is something for all ages this weekend.

MAY THE ROAD RISE UP TO MEET YOU

What: St. Paddy’s 7K Where: Coolidge Park, 200 River St. When: 8:15 a. m. Even the waterfall below Lover’s Leap will be green as part of the celebratio­n.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

What: St. Chatty’s Day Parade

Where: Parade steps off at Passenger Street onto Main Street, turns onto Market Street, ending at Houston Street When: 1 p. m. Saturday Admission: Free for spectators

For more informatio­n: 423-757-5259 Registrati­on has closed to march in the parade, but spectators are welcome to dress in green, bring a folding chair, sit on the sidewalk along the parade route and cheer on the floats and bands. Parade units will include Highlander­s Pipes and Drums, marching bands, a Shrine unit, Do Good for a Dog Friendly Chattanoog­a, Irish descendant­s living in Chattanoog­a and more.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY BLOCK PARTY

What: St. Paddy’s Party on the Parkway

Where: The Honest Pint, 35 Patten Parkway

When: 3 p. m. to midnight Saturday

Admission: $ 15 in advance, $20 at gate, $ 49.56 Jameson VIP ticket sold until 2 p. m. Saturday

For more informatio­n: 423-468-4192 After the St. Chatty’s Day Parade, the party moves down to Patten Parkway, where 15 local bands will entertain visitors at the fifth annual Party on the Parkway. This block party is a fundraiser for SoundCorps and Chattanoog­a’s Kids on the Block. Patten Parkway will be closed for the event, and anyone purchasing a ticket or admitted onto the site must wear a wristband that designates children, who's over 21 or who’s a performer.

Honest Pint will have bands playing inside and out. In addition to the musical acts, there will be buskers, Highlander’s Pipes and Drums, Chattanoog­a Fire Cabaret and vendors such as Beer Snob Clothing Co. and Cigar Man.

From 3 to 6 p. m, a Kids Zone will be open with exhibits by McKamey Animal Center, Oscar Mayer Wienermobi­le and Chattanoog­a Zoo along with children’s activities. Tickets in advance are sold online at parkwaypar­ty.com.

SHAKE YOUR SHAMROCKS

What: St. Patrick’s Day in West Village

Where: 800 block of Chestnut Street When: 4-11 p. m. Saturday Admission: Free For more informatio­n: 423- 831- 4653 The street party begins with food trucks, live bands, buskers and St. Patrick’s Day-themed games for kids. There will be a kids-themed laser show early in the evening, followed by a U2-themed laser show.

What: St. Paddy’s Day with Ceilidh

Where: Creative Arts Guild, 520 W. Waugh St., Dalton, Ga. When: 7-9 p. m. Friday Admission: $ 10, $8 senior citizens and students with valid ID

RAISE THE ROOF

What: St. Patrick’s Day Dinner with Irish Tunes

Where: Tennessee Valley Theatre, 184 W. Jackson Ave., Spring City, Tenn. When: 6: 30 p. m. Saturday Admission: $ 18 For more informatio­n: 423-365-7529 They’re planning to raise the roof at Tennessee Valley Theatre, and some green is needed. The theater is desperatel­y in need of a new roof. and this fundraiser will help make that possible. The benefit will combine a traditiona­l Irish meal with tunes played by Dreams of Kings band. Reservatio­ns are required.
