Thena Dare-Beam sings at Tap House

Af­ter a l most t wo decades, singer Thena Dare- Beam will re­turn to Ten­nessee for a per­for­mance at The Tap House, 3800 St. Elmo Ave., on Sun­day, Sept. 16. The free show starts at 6 p.m.

Dare- Beam and vi­o­lin­ist Natalie Cal­abretta will per­form orig­i­nal ma­te­rial span­ning the vo­cal­ist’s four al­bums.

Af­ter es­tab­lish­ing her­self in Chat­tanooga’s mu­sic scene, Dare-Beam l eft in 1999 to study vo­cal jazz un­der eight­time Grammy nom­i­nee Tier­ney Sut­ton at the Univer­sity of South­ern Cal­i­for­nia. From there, she went on to work with Grammy- win­ning writer/pro­ducer Bus­bee, Taboo (Black Eyed Peas), Will Gray, John Beasley (Miles Davis) and Quincy Jones III.

In 2008, she took a teach­ing po­si­tion at the Los An­ge­les Col­lege of Mu­sic, where she founded the song­writ­ing pro­gram and taught vo­cal per­for­mance classes un­til the birth of her sec­ond child in 2013.
