Marcus King Band delivers Southern blues

The Marcus King Band is stopping at Walker Theatre inside Memorial Auditorium on its Carolina Confession­s Tour. Fans who didn’t get enough of Marcus King Band when it opened for Tedeschi Trucks Band in January won’t want to miss this show, which starts at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

At 23 years of age, Marcus King has been writing songs and performing onstage for half his life, delivering a Southern brand of blues and psychedeli­a inspired by rock and roll.

Born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina, King is fourth-generation musician. He traces

his lineage back to his fiddle-playing great-grandfathe­r, while his grandfathe­r was a fiddler and guitarist. His dad is Marvin King, a singer/ guitarist who has toured nationally since the 1970s with various artists as well as his own group, Marvin King and Blue Revival.

This son of the Blue Ridge Mountains has never had to strive for

authentici­ty, it’s busting out of his DNA with every note he plays. The band’s 2018 album “Carolina Confession­s” adds to its reputation for imaginativ­e songwritin­g and King’s guitar virtuosity.
