57th Singing Christmas Tree set for Saturday

One of Chattanooga’s longest-running and most-anticipated holiday traditions, the Chattanooga Boys Choir’s Singing Christmas Tree, will be presented for the 57th year on Saturday, Dec. 7, in the Tivoli Theatre. Two performances of the family-friendly show are set for noon and 5:30 p.m.

The program will include more than 100 members of the Chattanooga Boys Choir’s five component choirs, as well as guest artists from the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Youth Orchestra, Ballet Tennessee and the Metropolitan Bells handbell ensemble. In all, the stage will be filled with over 200 young performers providing holiday music and dance for all ages.

The choir’s special guest will be Scott Coulter, a Boys Choir alumnus who has been honored as one of Broadway’s top performers in both theater and cabaret productions.

To acknowledge the appearance by their famous alum, the CBC has chosen “Christmas on Broadway” as the theme of this year’s Singing Christmas Tree. Coulter will join the choir in presenting holiday pieces made famous in musical theater productions, such as “These Are a Few of My Favorite Things” from “The Sound of Music,” “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” from “Miracle on 34th Street” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” sung by Judy Garland in the film “Meet Me in St. Louis.”

Included on the program will be excerpts from Camille Saint-Seans’ Christmas Oratorio, Wayne Bisbee’s setting of “Adeste Fideles” and a setting of “All Is Well” by Michael W. Smith. The program will also feature holiday favorites such as “O Holy Night,” “White Christmas” and “Christmastime Is Here.”

Additionally, the choir will sing “Al Shlosha D’Varim” in Hebrew and Cristi Cary Miller’s setting of “Dona Nobis Pacem” in Latin.

“There is surely something for everyone in this year’s program,” says Vincent Oakes, CBC artistic director. “In addition to the beautiful music, seeing over 200 young people engaged in such an impressive and wonderful program will be sure to lift the spirits of anyone in attendance.”
