Holiday tea at Houston Museum

Experience an authentic English tea with a festive flair when the annual Holiday Tea on High Street is held at Houston Museum of Decorative Arts, 201 High St., on Sunday, Dec. 8. Guests will have two seatings from which to choose: 1-2:20 or 2:40-4 p.m.

The authentic English tea party features scones with lemon curd, jams and clotted cream, finger sandwiches, savories and sweets in addition to English tea. Guests will be entertaine­d with seasonal music by Ralph Miller, a visit from Father Christmas, along with a guided tour of the Victorian home and its beautiful and rare collection of antiques.

“The Houston’s Holiday Tea has become a much-loved and time-honored tradition,” says Amy

Autenreith, museum executive director. “Our goal is to provide an authentic English tea experience that will having visitors saying, ‘That was a wonderful day!’”

Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite hats or even period costumes. One prize per seating will be awarded to the guest judged to be most authentica­lly dressed.

The gift shop will be open for crowd-free shopping with plenty of gift-giving ideas as well as a 10% discount for those attending the tea.

Tickets for this museum fundraiser are $32 per adult, $10 for children ages 4-12 and $20 for ages 65 and older. Reservatio­ns are required, and admission is prepaid for this limited-seating event.
