No phones allowed; just sit back and enjoy Dave Chappelle

- STAFF REPORT

If you plan to see comedian Dave Chappelle tonight, don’t bring your cellphone to the Tivoli. Don’t. Even. Think. About. It.

Chappelle has a strict no-cellphones-allowed policy for his shows. If you don’t leave it locked in your car, it will be collected at the door. Everyone attending his shows will be subject to a pat down and “wanding.” If a cellphone is found, the owner will be required to place it in a locked pouch and leave it until the show has concluded.

If you’re caught with a cellphone inside the theater, you will be ejected. Chappelle is an internationally renowned stand-up comedian known for his sharp, irreverent, social commentary exploring race, pop culture, sex, drugs, politics and fame.

He’s been on a roll recently. Check out these accolades he has received:

› He was named the 2019 recipient of the annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

› Chappelle won a second Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special with “Equanimity” in 2018.

› Rolling Stone ranked Chappelle among the Top 10 of its “50 Best Stand-Up Comics of All Time.”

› In 2018, Chappelle returned to the big screen as Noodles, Jackson Maine’s best friend and retired musician in Bradley Cooper’s remake of “A Star Is Born.”

› On August 26, Chappelle released his fifth Netflix special, “Dave Chappelle: Sticks & Stones.”
