Payne and Ross open Playhouse season

- STAFF REPORT Compiled by Susan Pierce.

The audience favorite duo of Patty Payne and Jason Ross will kick off the Cumberland County Playhouse’s 55th season when they open “Tuna Does Vegas” on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the theater in Crossville, Tennessee.

“Tuna Does Vegas” is the hilarious sequel to last year’s megahit “Red, White and Tuna.”

“I’m thrilled to dig into yet another comic gold mine from playwrights Ed Howard, Joe Sears and Jaston Williams,” says director Weslie Webster. “And it’s always a joy to work with Jason and Patty, who are simply two of the best comic actors I’ve ever seen.”

When radio host Arles Struvie announces on air that he and his wife, Bertha, are heading to Las Vegas to renew their wedding vows, the whole town of Tuna, Texas, goes along for the ride. And once the wacky citizens of the third-smallest town in Texas hit the Las Vegas strip, Sin City will never be the same.

Ross and Payne reprise the most memorable characters from “Red, White and Tuna,” along with a host of new ones, including Elvis impersonators and Vegas showgirls. This uproarious quick-change tour de farce is sure to provide audiences with two hours of nonstop laughter.

“Tuna Does Vegas” will play through March 19. Tickets can be purchased online at ccplayhouse.com or by calling 931484-5000.
