Lee series continues with Frances Luke Accord duo

- STAFF REPORT Compiled by Susan Pierce.

Lee University will welcome the Frances Luke Accord duo, who are Nicholas Gunty and Brian Powers, on Tuesday, Jan. 28, when the Lee Performing Arts Series resumes. Their concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Dixon Center, 1053 Church St. NE, Cleveland, Tennessee.

A free reception will follow the Dixon Center performance.

Gunty and Powers, both from South Bend, Indiana, met and began performing together while students at the University of Notre Dame. Their first release, “Kandote,” was a bold intercultural collaboration with the Barefoot Truth Children’s Choir in Uganda, which provides ongoing support to the choir to this day. Relocating to Chicago in 2013, the duo honed its songwriting craft while releasing two more self-produced EPs, laying the groundwork for the breakthrough debut fulllength, “Fluke,” in 2016.

In addition to their performance, Frances Luke Accord will give an artist lecture Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall, located in Lee’s Humanities Center.

Concert admission is free but tickets are required due to limited seating. They are available at https://www.showclix. com/event/performing-artsseries-frances-luke-accord or at the Dixon Center Box Office, from 3-6 p.m. Any remaining tickets will be available at the box office one hour before the event.
