Laughs around town
Two rising stars and the Queen of Country Comedy will be in town over the next week offering three chances to laugh out loud at their wit. Here’s a rundown of where to find them.
THE COMEDY CATCH
Etta
May, the Kentucky comic who won Female Stand-Up Comedian of the Year, takes the stage in The Comedy Catch, 1400 Market St., tonight through Saturday, Jan. 23-25.
She’s appeared in the ABC sitcom “Davis Rules,” on “The Arsenio Hall Show,” NBC’s “The Comedy Store’s Fifteenth Anniversary” and ABC’s “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper.” She tours with the Southern Fried Chicks.
Tickets are $12 for tonight’s show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 for the 7:30 and 9:45 p.m. shows either Friday or Saturday.
SKYZOO
Atlanta comedian Willie Bee is celebrating his birthday with Willie Bee & Friends Live Stand-up Comedy Show at SkyZoo, 5709 Lee Highway, tonight, Jan. 23, at 8 o’clock.
The comic will be joined by Nema Katt, Reggie Harper
and Cedrick Middlebrooks. Marcus Fairbanks will host the show. Tickets are $15.

TIVOLI THEATRE
Mentioned in Rolling Stone Magazine as “a comic who should be big,” Nate Bargatze stops in the Tivoli Theatre, 709 Broad St., for “Nate Bargatze: Good Problem to Have” on Wednesday, Jan. 29. Show time is 7 p.m.
“My father is a former clown turned world-class magician, and I have followed his footsteps into the entertainment business,” says Bargatze on his website.
Bargatze was one of the first comedians to perform on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and was part of Fallon’s Clean Cut Comedy Tour. In 2015, he was named one of Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch. He’s performed at Bonnaroo, SXSW and multiple times in Iraq and Kuwait for U.S. troops.
His first album, “Yelled At By a Clown,” made it to No. 2 on Billboard Top 10 Comedy and his most recent special, “Full Time Magic,” made it to No. 1.
