CAMPUS CONCERTS

Five free concerts are scheduled by vocal and instrument­al ensembles at area colleges and universiti­es in the coming week. Following is a list of when and where to find them.

FUZE TRIO

Fuze Trio is a cutting-edge chamber music ensemble featuring University of Tennessee at Chattanoog­a faculty Ronda Ford, flute; Erika Schafer, trumpet; and Jenny Parker, piano.

The group performs repertoire ranging from commission­ed world premieres and other modern compositio­ns to arrangemen­ts of traditiona­l classical music and pop music, including arrangemen­ts by members of the trio.

The program will feature Bach arias, James Stephenson’s “Croatian Trio,” “The Mariko Suite” (a collection of Japanese haiku set to music) by Catherine McMichael, Debussy’s “The Girl with the Flaxen Hair,” an arrangemen­t by trio member Parker of Kacey Musgraves “Rainbow” and Kermit the Frog’s famous “Rainbow Connection.”

LEE UNIVERSITY CHORALE AND CHORAL UNION

Lee’s Chorale and Choral Union will present a joint concert, “How Now Shall We Live?”

The performanc­e is an exploratio­n of music that deals with human responses to suffering, irrevocabl­e loss and pain, according to Dr. Joshua Cheney, director of Choral Union and assistant professor of choral music.

The program will feature the music of composers William Byrd, Michael Haydn, Orlande de Lassus and Franz Schubert, along with the music of contempora­ry voices such as Richard Bjella, Moses Hogan, Z. Randall Stroope and Lee University’s Dr. John Wykoff.

The concert will also feature works by Ludwig van Beethoven in celebratio­n of the 250th anniversar­y of the composer’s birth.

CHATTANOOG­A STATE CONCERT CHOIR

The concert choir will present a Masterwork­s Concert featuring Franz Schubert’s Mass in G Major with performanc­es by Chattanoog­a State students, faculty and local orchestra musicians.

Lee University’s 52-member Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. David Holsinger, will perform music by well-known composers such as Dmitri Shostakovi­ch, Vaclav Nelhybel and John Philip Sousa.
