Sci-fi, comics and cosplay at Con Nooga

- STAFF REPORT Compiled by Susan Pierce.

The weekend following Valentine’s Day always means it’s time for Con Nooga in Chattanooga.

Con Nooga is a multigenre fan convention that covers anime, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, paranormal, video gaming, board and card games, comics, literature and role-play games.

Con Nooga is designed to be family-friendly so that parents may bring their children without worrying about excessive adult material. In fact, there is an entire activity track geared to kids and children’s events that ends before 8 p.m.

For adults, there will be burlesque performances on Friday and Saturday nights, a Friday night dance party and role-playing scenario Dixie Wasteland, a post-apocalyptic settlement.

The Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator will offer an immersive “Star Trek”-style role-playing game that requires each team member to perform individual roles coordinated by their captain.

Visitors can cosplay as their favorite character for events such as Cosplay in Horror (Friday at 4 p.m.),

Pillow Fight with a Monster (Friday at 8 p.m.) or Ghoulish Photo-Op (Saturday at 3 p.m.), at which a variety of backdrops and weapons will be provided.

Panels and classes such as Paranormal Investigation 101 (Friday at 5 p.m.) or Introduction to Cosplay Prosthetics (Saturday at 11 a.m.) will cover basic equipment needs and how-tos.

And one guest will be crowned Scream Queen on Saturday at 6 p.m. This contest awards prizes to the person whose scream can frighten a panel of judges to death.

The vendors room will be located in Hall A, gaming in Hall B, main events in Hall D and workshops in rooms 7-21.
