Weed Wrangles at state parks

Want to get out of the house this weekend? Do you feel inspired to help a nonprofit? Solve both of these desires at once by joining a Weed Wrangle on Saturday, March 7, at Tennessee State Parks.

Volunteers are needed to help rescue parks from invasive species. Supervised Weed Wrangle teams will remove harmful trees, vines and flowering plants. Volunteers are needed at six area state parks.

Following is a rundown of where and when:

SATURDAY, MARCH 7

› Booker T. Washington State Park: 5801

Champion Road, 10 a.m.12:30 p.m. Dress for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes and bring a water bottle.

› Cumberland Mountain State Park: 24 Office Drive, Crossville, Tenn., 10 a.m.-noon CST. Meet at boat dock parking lot, tools and gloves provided. Wear long pants and sleeves, bring water and snacks.

› Cumberland Trail State Park: 220 Park Road, Caryville, Tenn., 9 a.m.-1 p.m. CST. Meet at the Head of the Sequatchie lodge, hand tools will be provided. Bring own gloves, water bottle and snacks; wear sturdy clothing and closed-toe shoes.

› Fall Creek Falls State Park: 2009 Village Camp Road, Spencer, Tenn., 9 a.m.-1 p.m. CST. Meet at nature center parking lot to carpool to northern portion of park; bring loppers and hand saws if you have them.

› Harrison Bay State Park: 8411 Harrison Bay Road, 1-3 p.m. Meet at Campground C bathhouse. Wear clothing appropriat­e for weather, bring water and sunscreen.

› Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park: 404 Spring Creek Road, Delano, Tenn., 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Meet at Gee Creek office; bring water and wear clothing appropriat­e for the weather.
