Catch a concert online for now

With a dozen music performances either canceled or postponed this weekend, you may be wondering what is the status of your favorite venue or a concert to which you had tickets.

With the city’s major venues temporarily closed, music fans can still find live music at some local bars and restaurants. You’ll find a list of those in Club Scene. Following is an update from management of the city’s larger venues and some performance ensembles.

Chattanooga Bach Choir Cantata Series: Canceled. Formerly scheduled March 22.

Chattanooga Symphony & Opera: All performances through April 2 are canceled. All CSO educational programming and Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Youth Orchestra activities are also suspended until Monday, March 30, due to the closure of Hamilton County Schools.

Choral Arts of Chattanooga’s Sweet Jazz Fundraiser: This event has been postponed from its original date of March 28.

The Signal: Shamrock Roller Disco scheduled March 20 has been postponed until further notice. Tickets for America’s AC/ DC on March 27 and for Lucero on April 2 are still being sold.

Songbirds Guitar Museum: Songbirds is closed until Wednesday, April 1.

The timing of the coronavirus threat was particularly devastating for organizers of MedRock, a battle of rock bands whose members are physicians. That fundraiser was scheduled for March 21. Proceeds from MedRock support a scholarship fund for students planning careers in healthcare fields, and students had already applied for these awards.

Organizers considered trying to live-stream band performances, but ultimately decided to cancel MedRock for this year.

Tivoli Theatre, Memorial

Auditorium and Walker Theatre: All events until April 3 are canceled or postponed. Refunds for events that are canceled will take place at point-of-purchase.

If a show is postponed, tickets will be honored for the new date. The box office will continue to execute refunds as the hold on these venues continues. For more information about refunds, call 423-757-5580 or email box office@ tivolichat

Although the String Theory chamber music concert at Hunter Museum of American Art, scheduled for March 24, was canceled, fans of chamber music can still enjoy String Theory through live-streaming.

“In the spirit of ‘the music must go on’ – we will be uploading weekly music videos from our archive over the past 11 years through social media and e-newsletters,” said Candy Kruesi, String Theory advisory board chair, in a letter to patrons.

“You can also catch a String Theory performance featuring Anthony McGill, clarinet, and Gloria Chien, piano, on NPR’s Performance Today,” she said. That web address is https://www. yourclassie-today

String Theory is also offering online performances around the world.

Even though the Metropolitan Opera has canceled all Met performances through March 31, it’s still possible to enjoy performances online. The opera is sponsoring “Nightly Met Opera Streams” on its website.

The free streams are encore presentations of past performances in its Live in HD Series. They begin at 7:30 p.m. (Eastern) each night on https://www.metopera. org/. They are then available for an additional 20 hours afterward.

The performances can also be viewed on the Met Opera on Demand apps.
