High school Honor Choir studies, sings at Lee

Some 250 choral students from 20 high schools will perform at Lee University’s annual Honor Choir concert at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Conn Center, 150 11th St. Admission is free.

Students from public and private high schools in Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina will convene on the Cleveland, Tenn., campus today to rehearse for the performanc­e.

The concert will feature gender-specific choirs performing choral arrangemen­ts, followed by a mixed choir. Four selections are specifical­ly written or arranged for each of the men’s and women’s choirs, which will then combine to sing three pieces arranged for soprano, alto, tenor and bass.

Conductors are Dr. William R. Green and Dr. Cam- eron F. Labarr.

A conductor in choral music for more than 20 years, Green is the dean of the School of Music and associate professor of music at Lee. He conducts the Lee University Chorale and teaches graduate and undergradu­ate courses in conducting.

Labarr is an assistant professor of choral music at Lee, where he conducts Choral Union and teaches conducting, choral literature and choral methods. Formerly, he served as conductor of the University of North Texas Men’s Chorus and taught undergradu­ate conducting at UNT as a doctoral teaching fellow.
