Formosa celebrates Chinese culture, cuisine at CDM
Cooking demonstration complements museum’s ‘Children of Hangzhou’ exhibit.
Visitors to Creative Discovery Museum on Saturday can savor the flavor of China, compliments of a longtime Chattanooga restaurant.
From noon to 1 p.m., Formosa Chinese Restaurant manager Mitchell Linn will help guests prepare Chinese fried rice during a cooking demonstration in Culinary Corner and offer insight into how popular Chinese cuisine is prepared. Samples will be provided at the end of the demonstration.
“Celebrating culture through food is an easy and fun way to encourage kids to become interested in learning about different communities,” said Liza Blair, the museum’s arts manager. “This cooking class will give our guests a unique look into the process of cooking Chinese fried rice and provide another layer of experience to complement the current traveling exhibit, ‘Children of Hangzhou: Connecting With China.’ ”
Formosa, at 5425 Highway 153, has been serving its Chinese specialties for nearly three decades, according to its website.
The cooking demonstration is part of the museum’s Artslive! programming, which highlights local artistic talent.
The museum will be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. The “Children of Hangzhou” exhibit continues through May 13.
