FRA coach Pack resigns after arrest

- By Maurice Patton

NASHVILLE — David Pack resigned Friday as football coach and assistant to the head of school at Franklin Road Academy following his arrest on a misdemeanor charge of patronizing prostitution.

The arrest was made Thursday night as part of a sting being conducted by Metro Police.

“The tragedy is this one day and these allegations may stand out above the body of work of his time in coaching,” said Pack’s attorney, Worrick Robinson. “I expect he will be vindicated. I expect that this will be resolved in a favorable way. His family is supporting him, and I expect that to stay consistent.

“It’s an extremely private matter that has gone public, and he and his family are addressing it the only way they know how. All he can do at this point is wait to appear in court to address the charges.”

Pack declined comment when reached Friday.

“The FRA administration was shocked and saddened to learn this morning of a situation involving Mr. David Pack,” read a release distributed by the school. “Effective immediately, Mr. Pack has resigned from Franklin Road Academy.

“Due to the legal nature of the situation, the school will have no further comment at this time.”

Pack, 49, was hired at FRA in 2008 after spending five seasons at Ensworth as a football assistant and girls’ basketball coach. He posted a 23-22 record at FRA, guiding the program to Division II-A playoff wins in 2009 and 2010 before finishing 47 last fall.

His Ensworth girls’ basketball team won a state championship in 2008. He also served as football coach at Christ Presbyterian Academy, winning Class 1A titles in 2000 and ’02, and was a football assistant and girls’ basketball coach at Brentwood Academy.

According to an affidavit, Pack responded to an advertisement on a website and showed up Thursday night at a Dickerson Road hotel where the sting was being conducted by Metro detectives. Pack was directed by phone to one of the rooms, where he agreed to have sex with an undercover officer for $150.

Pack was taken into custody, booked and released on $2,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on Feb. 22.
