Dreamnight tonight
Chattanooga Zoo, 301 N. Holtzclaw Ave., will host its annual Dreamnight for special-needs children and their families tonight. The event, scheduled 5:30-8:30 p.m., is presented in conjunction with the city of Chattanooga’s Therapeutic Recreation Program.
Dreamnight offers a VIP zoo visit that accommodates the unique circumstances that generally limit relaxing outings for these families during normal operating hours.
“We are so honored to be part of such an amazing event,” said Elaine Adams, therapeutic recreation coordinator. Dreamnight is a special evening that allows individuals to showcase their abilities not their disabilities. It is truly a magical night.”
Each year the event is sponsored by Unum and offers behind-the-scenes tours, up-close animal encounters, bounce houses, face painting, food and other activities.
Dreamnight is one of our employees’ favorite volunteer activities that we sponsor each year,” said Cathy Barrett, community relations manager for Unum. “We understand the impact a disability can have on a family. Dreamnight provides an opportunity for children and their families to be around others who share similar circumstances and enjoy the zoo without the crowds that regular zoo hours bring.”
Chattanooga Zoo Executive Director Darde Long added, “Being able to offer these families a relaxing outing and some personal time with the animals is very rewarding to our staff. We love seeing the smiles,” she said.
Admission to Dreamnight is free, but reservations are required to attend. Call 6971319.
