‘Chair-rie Pickers’ theme of Chair-ries Jubilee

- STAFF REPORT

A chair donated by “American Pickers” host Mike Wolfe is expected to be a highlight of this year’s Chair-ries Jubilee, an arts-in-education fundraiser to be presented Friday, Feb. 17, in Cleveland, Tenn.

This year’s theme, “Chair-rie Pickers,” is a play on the History channel TV show, which features episodes about two self-described “modern archaeologists,” Wolfe and childhood friend Frank Fritz, who travel the country uncovering treasures that provide a glimpse at American life in the recent and distant past.

From his finds, Wolfe has donated a midcentury modern lime green, fiberglass swivel chair from the 1950s. It will be part of the live auction held at the Museum Center at Five Points, 200 E. Inman St.

“Our ‘Chair-rie Pickers’ event will give guests an opportunity to also experience the magic of picking some amazing treasures from among the pieces re-created and donated by local artists,” says Nancy Casson, co-chairman of the Chair-ries Jubilee committee. “Best of all, it allows us to raise funds for arts activities and grants for our local schools.”

The Allied Arts Council of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce presents Chair- ries Jubilee. The fundraiser kicks off at 6 p.m. with a silent auction and social hour, followed by a live auction at 8 p.m.

Up for grabs in the silent auction are baskets from regional attractions, ranging from Gatlinburg to Chattanooga.

One of the early donations was “a darling basket from the Knoxville Zoo,” says Casson. “The basket includes a stuffed gorilla, four complimentary passes and six discount tickets for use at the zoo.”

Other attractions that will be packaged in baskets, along with restaurant offers and other gifts, are the Chattanooga Zoo, Creative Discovery Museum, International Towing & Recovery Museum, Ruby Falls, Chattanooga Riverboat Co., Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, Chattanooga Lookouts, Tennessee Aquarium, Rafting in the Smokies Family Adventure, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, Rock City Gardens, Dixie Stampede, Dollywood, Wonder Works, Rainforest Adventures and Lost Sea.

Dinner will feature food from Café Roma, CBC Cleveland, Cleveland Country Club, Gardner’s Market, Impressions Catering, Side Street Café, Stadium BBQ , Tasteful Gatherings, The Catering Connection and 2NoLa Natives.

Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. They are available at the Chamber of Commerce, 225 Keith St. SW, and The Red Ribbon, 270 Central Ave NW. For more information, call 423-472-6587.
