Meet ROWAN BLANCHARD at Kidz Expo

- STAFF REPORT

As the second season of the Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World” prepares to launch, star Rowan Blanchard will be in Chattanooga, meeting fans of the show.

Rowan, 13, will be at Kidz Expo on Saturday, April 18, getting her photo made and talking to guests from 12:30 until 3 p.m. Photos are firstcome, first-shot.

Tickets to the expo, which is presented by the Times Free Press, are $7 each or $25 for a four-pack. Buy them at timesfreepressevents.com or at the door the day of the expo.

The masthead of Rowan’s Twitter feed features a huge photo of actress Audrey Hepburn, the teen’s idol, not only because of her acting ability in such films as “My Fair Lady,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “Roman Holiday” but also because of her lifelong commitment to philanthropy work for such groups as UNICEF.

“Of course she was an accomplished actress, but she was so much more,” Rowan says. “She had such a way of reaching out and helping people. She did everything with such grace, passion and emotion. … Such a role model.”

Rowan began acting when she was 5 years old, but her career began to blossom in 2010, when she was cast in the feature film “The Back-Up Plan” with Jennifer Lopez. From there she landed other roles, including “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World” and the TV movie “Little in Common." On Halloween, she’ll appear as one of the main characters in “Invisible Sister,” a madefor-TV movie on the Disney Channel.

“Girl Meets World," which debuted last year on the Disney Channel, enters its second season on May 11. In the show, Rowan plays Riley, the daughter of Cory and Topanga Matthews. The show is a sequel to “Boy Meets World,” which ran from 1993 until 2000 on ABC and focused on the life of Cory Matthews as he grew from an adolescent to a married adult.

In “Girl Meets World," Cory (Ben Savage) now

teaches middle school, and she is one of his students. Her mother Topanga (Danielle Fishel) is a lawyer who co-owns a bakery.

Beyond Rowan’s appearance, Kidz Expo also features more than 100 vendor booths, including food and drink, summer camps, schools, dentists, toy stores and clothing shops.

Attractions at the expo will appeal to a wide range of ages, families with babies, toddlers, children and tweens. Young attendees can play games, jump in inflatables, look at fashions and watch magicians, puppets, dance teams, cheerleaders and martial arts demonstrations. Parents can visit booths that offer advice and information on raising happy, healthy kids.
