Gospel Meets Jazz tonight
MULTIPLE EVENTS LEAD UP TO NEXT WEEKEND’S HEADLINERS
Voices of The Creative Underground will perform, along with the Chattanooga Gospel Orchestra directed by Danny Sample, for Gospel Meets Jazz. The concert is from 6 to 8 p.m, tonight at Olivet Baptist Church, 740 E. M.L. King Blvd.
The headliner concerts for Chattanooga’s Jazzanooga festival are still a week away, but there’s still jazz to be had around the Scenic City.
In addition to the continuing Brown Bag Lunch Music Series on Fridays at Miller Plaza and a monthlong exhibition about jazz pianist Dave Brubeck at the Chattanooga Public Library, there are one-off performances focusing on jazz’s connections to gospel, poetry and the blues.
Big Nine Music Series Week, a Sunday-to-Sunday celebration, April 19-26, will feature concerts, walking tours and a Diversity in the Arts symposium. The week culminates next weekend with two nights of concerts featuring Eric Roberson, Take 6, Gretchen Parlato and Alan Hampton.
Here’s the rundown for the rest of Jazz Appreciation Month. Events are free unless otherwise noted. Get more information at www. jazzanooga.org.
