Malik Blackstock

Malik K. Blackstock, 18, of Chattanoog­a, passed away on April 8, 2015.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories, mother and father, LaKisha Odom and Charles Blackstock; his siblings, Raven Carter, Destiny Charter, Croshun Booker, Derick Moore and Mario Donahue; his grandparen­ts, John Flagg and Orlando and Evelyn Robinson; his girlfriend, Patricia Patillo; and unborn daughter, Paris Malia Blackstock Patillo; aunts, Tameka Meyers, Jacquelin Odum, Renee Douglas, Becky Odum, Beverly Ann Trody and Shantika Douglas; uncles, Cornelius Odom, Isaac Robinson and Erie Meyer; cousins, Justin Odom, Kevin Odom, Tiffany Hood, Aria Robinson and many more. A close family friend, Betty Robinson.

Funeral services will be at noon today at Olivet Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Kevin Adams Sr. officiatin­g.

Karl Bolus Sr.

Karl Raymond Bolus Sr., 72, of Chattanoog­a went home to be with His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, April 17, 2015.

He was born on Nov. 3, 1942, in Chattanoog­a to the late William David Bolus and Elizabeth Louise Grindle Bolus. Mr. Bolus graduated from Central High School and was a member of Wauhatchie United Methodist Church in Lookout Valley and a Trustee. Karl was a longtime member of Lookout Valley Masonic Lodge # 673. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local #175 and retired after 45 years of service. Karl was also a member of the Contempora­ry Historical Vehicle Associatio­n of Cartersvil­le, Georgia.

Karl’s favorite past time was spending time with his family and friends, antique cars, hunting, fishing, boating, camping and traveling.

Karl was preceded in death by his father, William David Bolus and mother, Elizabeth Louise Grindle Bolus; grandfathe­r, Carl T. Chase Sr. and grandmothe­r, Flossie Bolus Chase; his brother, George Woodrow Bolus Chase; sister, Sheila Diane Bolus; and his grandson, Christian Nathaniel Huff.

Survivors include his wife, Jan, his children, Karl Raymond Bolus Jr. (Lisa), of Chattanoog­a, Kandy Lynn Bolus, of Chattanoog­a, Steven Kraig Bolus (Joan), of Acworth, Ga., and Kristal Lee Bolus Huff (Stephen), of Cleveland; three brothers, David William Bolus ( Anne), John Michael Bolus (Vicki), Bobby Bolus (Gloria), Billy Bolus (Frankie); one sister, Lynda Bolus Moore (Ron); eight grandchild­ren, Matthew, Sarah, Christophe­r, Kyle, Ashley, Jessica, Tanner and Conner; and one great-grandson, Jason, and several nephews and nieces.

The family would like to thank all of his doctors, Hospice of Chattanoog­a and Wauhatchie United Methodist Church for their help, prayers and compassion during his illness.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Wauhatchie United Methodist Church Home with the Rev. Stephen J. Huff and Rev. Christina DowlingSok­a officiatin­g.

Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery in St. Elmo.

Emma Campbell, 90, of Chattanoog­a, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2015, at her residence.

Elynor Carmichael

Elynor Moore Carmichael of Harrison, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, in a local hospital, at the age of 86.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Carmichael; brother, Alex G. Moore Jr.; father Alex G. Moore Sr.; and mother, Ethel Taylor Moore.

She is survived by her nephew, Donald G. Moore, and niece, Deborah Moore McLachlan; three great-nieces; and one great-nephew.

Elynor retired from South Central Bell Telephone Company following many years of service.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p. m. on Monday, April 20, at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace.

Lillian Hattley

Lillian McDevitt Hattley, 82, of Hixson, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015, surrounded by family.

Lillian lived a long and full life, was a retired employee of Gilman Paint and Varnish Company, and was at home cooking, shopping, feeding the birds.... and working in her yard until six months before passing. She was a member of the Grace Sunday School Class of Hixson First Baptist Church. Lillian was born in Marshall, N.C. and graduated from Warren Wilson Junior College in Swannanoa, N.C., in 1952, before moving to Tennessee and marrying Larry.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Pinckney and Alpha McDevitt, of Marshall, NC.; and twelve brothers and sisters.

Lillian is survived by a brother, Edwin McDevitt, of Asheville, N.C.; and a sister, Jean Blow, of Rock Hill, S.C.

She leaves behind a loving husband, Larry Hattley; two daughters, Loretta Woodard and Jackie (Wayne) Oettinger; three grandchild­ren, Jennifer Calhoon, Amanda Kilgore and Wes ( Terra) Oettinger. She loved her seven great-grandchild­ren, Evan, Noah, Allie, Landon, Emmy, Conner and Julia. Several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today from 2-3:30 p.m.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Terry Shannon officiatin­g.

Benny Helton

Benny Lamar Helton, 79, of Chattanoog­a, died on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at his home.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Benny was a graduate of Central High School and attended the University of Chattanoog­a. He served as president of J. D. Helton Roofing Company where he retired in 1997. Benny served in the National Guard 181st Field Battalion. He also served on boards of local, state and national profession­al organizati­ons in the roofing industry.

He was pr e ce de d in death by his parents, Jason and Tennie Helton and siblings, Edith Helton, Roy Helton, Helen Emerson, Granville Helton, J.R. Helton and Emmett Helton.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patsy Chastain Helton; his children, Kim (Jill) Helton, Jay (Susan) Helton and Tina ( Billy) White, all of Chattanoog­a; grandchild­ren, Taylor Helton and Andrew Helton; siblings, Dorothy Schrader, Gene Helton, Eula Mae Russell and Richard Helton; numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at noon Monday at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Allison officiatin­g.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m.–noon Monday at the Church.

Carl Hice, 51, of Chattanoog­a, died on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at a local hospital.

Mark Hickerson

Mark David Hickerson, 51, passed away early Friday morning, April 17, 2015, in Chattanoog­a.

A certified athletic trainer, Mark worked for more than twenty- five years with various high school athletic teams, most recently through the Sports Medicine Outreach Program of Western Kentucky Orthopaedi­c & Neurosurgi­cal Associates in Bowling Green, Ky. He was a longtime member of the National Athletic Trainers Associatio­n. Mark graduated from Baylor School of Chattanoog­a and Centre College, Ky.

A lifelong member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Chattanoog­a, Mark was also active with the First Christian Church of Bowling Green, Ky.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Robert I. Hickerson.

He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Kerr Hickerson; his brothers, Alan and Keith Hickerson; and his aunt, Nancy K. Dobbs.

The family will receive visitors at First Christian Church, 650 McCallie Ave. in Chattanoog­a, today, April 18, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The funeral service will follow immediatel­y at 1 p.m. also at First Christian Church, with pastors Phil and Aline Summerlin officiatin­g.

Interment will follow at Chattanoog­a Memorial Park on Memorial Drive in Red Bank.

Bud Keefe

Albert Glenn “Bud” Keefe, 83, of Chattanoog­a, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Dona ld Keefe.

Survivors include his daughters, Glenna Riggleman and Karen Keefe; two grandchild­ren; and four great- grandchild­ren.

Jean Landers

Jean Louise Landers, 74, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Thursday, April 16, 2015, in Franklin, N.C.

She was the daughter of the late Hayden and Lucille Landers. She was beloved by her families and her friends. She gave much to others and is especially remembered for her love of and influence on children. She is survived by cousins, Bonnie (Ed) Kimble, Lanny (Christine) Landers and Linda Dolive and their children, and her caregivers who became her family for the last eighteen years, Mary Ann and Phil Wilson and their children and grandchild­ren.

She grew up in Chattanoog­a where she graduated from Red Bank High School and the University of Tennessee at Chattanoog­a with her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. She was an active member of White Oak United Methodist Church and Englewood United Methodist Church. At both churches she led numerous children’s programs, vacation Bible schools, and choirs.

She was a resident of Englewood and Sarasota, Fla., for many years. She was an elementary science teacher for the Sarasota County School District and Recreation Director for the Oak Grove Mobile Home Park. An avid naturalist, she was active in the Audubon Society, and an award winning amateur photograph­er whose pictures were also published in a children’s book about animals.

Visitation will be at Lane Funeral Home from 1-2 p.m. and a gravesite service at Chattanoog­a Memorial Park at 3 p.m. today, April 18, 2015.

Kentrell LaZack Provens, 16, of Chattanoog­a, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015, at a local hospital.

Joe Smith

Joe F. Smith, 89, of Chattanoog­a, died Friday, April 17, 2015, at a local healthcare facility.

He was born Jan. 21, 1926 in Gadsden, Ala., to the late Lelas Chesley Smith Sr. and Ruth Wheeler Smith.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Ehrenfeld.

Mr. Smith was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama. He was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church for 58 years where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He retired from General Electric after 35 years of service. Mr. Smith volunteere­d with Habitat for Humanity until he was 80 years old.

He had a good and full life, which he used to lead his family and serve his Lord.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jane Smith; sons, Wayne (Kelly) Smith, Brian Smith and Jason (Gina) Smith; son-in-law, Russ (Laurie) Ehrenfeld; 12 grandchild­ren; and two great-grandchild­ren; one niece; and two nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015, at the East Chapel of Chattanoog­a Funeral Home with Rev. Tylan Blansit officiatin­g.

Interment will follow in Chattanoog­a National Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearer­s include Steve Still, Adam Smith, Jacob Smith, Luke Smith, Grant Smith and Brennen Ehrenfeld.

Robert Tanner Jr.

Robert Albert “Bob” Tanner Jr., 85, of Chattanoog­a, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015, in a local healthcare facility.

A lifelong resident of the Chattanoog­a area, he was the son of the late Robert A Tanner Sr. and Mildred Monds Tanner.

Bob was a graduate of City High School, as well as Cleveland State Community College.

He joined in U.S. Army in 1945, serving in Japan. In 1952 he began working with the Chattanoog­a Police Department, retiring in 1977 as lieutenant. Following his retirement, he became Captain of the Erlanger Police Department, serving for fifteen years.

Bob actively attended several Churches of Christ in the Chattanoog­a area, most recently East Brainerd Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Tanner; grandson, Tyler Haley; and two sisters, Jeanette Farmer and June Cooper.

Survivors include his sons and daughters- in- law, Robert A. Tanner III and Vickie, Bradley Tanner Sr. and Janet; grandchild­ren, Meesha Norman, Robert A. “Beau” Tanner IV, Brandi Paris, Bradley A. “Tosh” Tanner Jr., Caitlin Stokes, and ten great-grandchild­ren.

The family will gather with friends on Monday, April 20, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at East Brainerd Church of Christ, 7745 East Brainerd Road, Chattanoog­a. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Chattanoog­a National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributi­ons be made to East Brainerd Church of Christ.

Elvenia Walker, 89, of Chattanoog­a, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, in a local health care facility.

Shirley Jewel Wilson, 75, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015, in an area hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and one sister.

Cassie Womack, 51, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away on April 16, 2015, surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born Aug. 22, 1963 and was employed by DuPont until her illness. Cassie was a graduate of Soddy-Daisy High School Class of 1981.

She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Hineman; sister, Robin Hineman Styers; and her grandparen­ts, John and Dallas Ward and Bill and Martha Hineman.

DUNLAP — Ricky Ray Green, 67, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015, after a lingering illness.

He was a local business owner for many years. Rick loved antique classic cars and was an avid motorcycli­st. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Villa Hicks Green.

Survivors include his son, Scott (Kim) Green, of Ringgold, Ga.; daughter, Kimberly (Donald) Mixon, of Cleveland, Tenn.; sister, Shirley Green Hardy; brothers, Jim (Carolyn) Green and Bobby (Shirley) Green, all of Dunlap; grandchild­ren, Shelby, Gabrielle, Madilyn, Osborne, Kayla and Alexia.

WINCHESTER — Jerry Hendon entered into eternal rest on April 16, 2015, while surrounded by his loving family.

WINCHESTER — Hattie Mae Durham Marlin, who just celebrated her 106th birthday, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at 11:30 p.m.

John Rigsby

DUNLAP — John Fitchgeral­d Rigsby, 51, died at his home Thursday, April 16, 2015.

Mr. Rigsby worked at Wright Brothers in Charleston, Tenn., for 21 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Shirley Belcher Rigsby; and daughter, Felicia Rigsby.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Daughtrey Rigsby, Dunlap; daughters, Kim (Josh) Shell, Dunlap, Bobbie (Tiger) Lively, Pikeville, Michelle ( Shane) West, Knoxville; son, Christophe­r ( Carrie) Daughtrey, Dunlap; brothers, George Lee (Katrina) Rigsby Jr. and Danny (Laura) Rigsby; 10 grandchild­ren; several nieces and nephews.

Vernon Roberts

WARTBURG — Vernon F. “Red” Roberts, 86, went home to his Gracious Heavenly Father on April 15, 2015, at The Bridge In Rockwood nursing facility after a lengthy illness.

Born in Harriman, Tenn., on Nov. 20, 1928, he was a Clifty Street boy. Served in the U. S. Army with the 5th Infantry Regiment and was a Korean War veteran. He was a longtime member of Liberty Baptist Church, Wartburg. A member of IBEW Local Union 270, Oak Ridge and worked nearly 40 years as an inside wireman and lineman before retirement to his farm near Wartburg.

Preceded in death by his parents, Dave Franklin Roberts and Betty Lee Hendrix Roberts, of Harriman; three brothers, Joe, Lige, David; and infant son, Michael Louis Roberts.

Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen Lois Key Roberts, formerly, of Clarkrange, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Jackie Collins Roberts, of Harriman; daughter and sonin-law, Debra and Chuck Nance, of Soddy-Daisy; five grandchild­ren, Lydia Roberts Austin and husband, Andrew, of Jackson, Miss., Benjamin Roberts and wife Ashley, of Loudon, Aaron, Chloe and Esme Nance, of Soddy-Daisy; and two great-grandsons, Isaiah Blake Austin and Jacob Louis Gibson Austin, of Jackson, Miss., and many nieces and nephews. He was known as Red Roberts by those he worked with but in his latter years most called him Papaw.

The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg.

Kimberly Bean

RINGGOLD — Kimberly Alice Bean, 50, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday April 16, 2015, at her residence.

She was a native of Chattanoog­a and has lived in Ringgold for the past 30 years. Kim was a member of Parkway Baptist for the past 25 years where she had been a leader in the College and Career group. Kim was employed with Battlefiel­d Imaging as office manager until becoming ill.

She was involved with the Walker and Catoosa county Chamber of Commerce and an avid sponsor of the American Cancer Society. Kim was a coordinato­r for the Relay for Life for 4 years.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Lyle; and her chosen son, Jared Bean.

Survivors are her loving husband of 28 years, Ray Bean; mother, Virginia Jo Lyle; and brother, Bill Lyle.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Parkway Baptist with Dr. David Sampson officiatin­g.

Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

ROSSVILLE — Wanda Carolyn Burns, 72, went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2015.

Wanda was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia area and a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Burns; mother, Mrytle Boatfield Frost; and son, Robert Burns.

She is survived by her father, Joe Frost, of Rossville; sons, Eddie Burns, of Rossville, Bill Burns, of Chattanoog­a, Mitchell Burns, of Rossville, James Burns, of Kissimee, Fla., and Johnny Burns, of Rossville; her daughters, Joyce Walling and Betty Burns, of Rossville; her sister, Betty Holland Butler, of Trenton, Ga.; several grandchild­ren and several great-grandchild­ren.

The funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2015, in the funeral home chapel, Pastor Richard Kennett, officiatin­g.

Interment will follow in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends all day today, all day Sunday, and prior to service on Monday.

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN — Logan Chase Dotson, 17, passed on April 15, 2015, as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born Sept. 5, 1997. He was a junior at Dade County High School.

Logan was a member of Grace Baptist Tabernacle. He was very active in several outside activities including deer hunting, motorcycle riding, and drag racing on the week- end with his dad.

Logan was preceded in death by his great-grandparen­ts, Eva and Clifford Dotson and Harry E. Clark; great-grandpa, great- grandmothe­r, Ada Bell Schober; and great-grandmothe­r, Ruby Hargis; and his aunt, Vicki Gilley.

Logan is survived by his parents, Larry and Carrie Dotson, of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; his grandparen­ts Terry and Linda Schober, of Lookout Mountain, Ga., and grandparen­ts, Johnny and Carolyn Rollins, of Chattanoog­a; several aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a host of friends.
