Lookouts roll past Smokies

- STAFF REPORT

The Chattanooga Lookouts might be regaining some of their offensive prowess from the first half of the season.

They pounded out 19 hits in a 14-2 win over the Tennessee Smokies on Friday at AT& T Field, their fifth victory in six games and the third time in 11 games they’ve reached double digits on the scoreboard.

The Lookouts ( 6450) won the Southern League’s North Division title in the first half, which included a stretch in May during which they scored in double digits in five of six games.

On Friday, Chattanooga tagged Tennessee starter Rob Zastryzny (2-4) for five runs in the first, with the biggest hit a three- run home run from D.J. Hicks. His drive to right field scored Stephen Wickens, who led off with a double, and Max Kepler, who followed with a single. Adam Walker followed with a walk, then scored on Travis Harrison’s triple. Harrison came home on Levi Michael’s single to make it 5-0.

Shannon Wilkerson collected six RBIs. One of four Chattanooga players with three hits, he had a two-run triple in the third and cleared the loaded bases with another triple in the sixth.

Lookouts starter Aaron Slegers ( 1-1) lost the shutout on Jacob Hannemann’s sacrifice fly in the sixth.

The fourth matchup in the five- game series is at 7: 15 tonight, when the promotion is College Football Night. Fans are invited to support their favorite schools and register for giveaways that include tickets to the Southeastern Conference championship game.

Right- hander Ryan Williams (7-2, 2.70 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for the Smokies (62-54). The Lookouts have not announced their starter.
