Albert Beasley Jr.
Albert Beasley Jr., of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016 in a Crossville, Tenn. hospital. Arrangements will be announced later by Taylor Funeral Home of Chattanooga, Inc.
Delta Brogden Jr.
Delta Homer Brogden Jr., 79, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015. The second child of the late Delta Homer Brogden, Sr. and Ruby Grace Willis was born on June 9, 1936 in Chattanooga, Tenn. He attended Stanley United Methodist Church.
De lta attended high school at Booker T. Washington and went to Alabama A&M College where he met Pearline Langford (Pearl). On Oct. 8, 1957, they married. To that union was born three children, Delta H. III, Tracye J. and Stacy A. Brogden. Delta served in the United States Air Force.
Delta gained employment at Mueller Company from 1963 to 1997. During his career, he served as foundry worker and was promoted to supervisor and later to area supervisor. Delta was an entrepreneur. He became a licensed general contractor. He and his wife, Pearl, built Del Brogden Enterprises, a successful real estate business.
Delta has been an inspiration to people from all walks of life. He always had a kind word and offered his hand to assist many. He was a loving father who was devoted to his family and to their success. He always had a word of advice about life, business, politics, sports and almost any other topic which he gladly shared and stated with a laugh, “I usually get paid for this advice but I will give it to you free.”
He is survived by his devoted wife, Pearline L. Brogden “Pearl”; two sons, Delta Homer Brogden III (Anita) and Stacy Brogden ( Cynthia); daughter, Tracye J. Brogden; two grandsons Delta H. Brogden IV and Shelden A. Brogden; four granddaughters, Sydney J. Simpson, Chanel I. Brogden, Raeven J. Davis and Danielle C. Brogden; two brothers, Robert L. Brogden and Franklin S. Brogden; five sisters, Sylvia D. Drake, Ruby J. Brown, Carolyn A. Armour, Linda R. Brown and Deneice A. Nelson and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Janu. 6, 2016 in the Chapel.
Interment – Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Carolyn Brown
Carolyn Marie Brown, 66, passed away Dec. 31, 2015, at a local health care facility. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Deforrest Davis; brother, Deforrest Davis Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Cheato J. Brown Jr.; two daughters, Danielle and Dione Brown; granddaughter, Tia Russell; great- granddaughter, Ja’Leah Russell; sisters, Tereasa Jones and Jerry Davis; several nieces, a nephew and numerous cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Terry Colton, 66, passed away January 3, 2016 in a local hospital.

Timothy Davis
Tim C. Davis, 47, of Chattanooga, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, in a local hospital.
Tim was a graduate of Chattanooga High School and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He worked for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee and was a very active member and elder at Central Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harlon Davis.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Ellen Davis; wife, Selena (Nina) Davis; daughter, Leah Davis, all of Chattanooga; several aunts and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, in the funeral home chapel with Minister David Schonhoff officiating. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Martha Ezell
Martha Christine Levi Ezell, 83, of Hixson, left her loving earthly family and friends and was met by her heavenly family and friends.
She was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. She retired from Finley’s Restaurant in Reading, Pa. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a Gray Lady Volunteer with Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Sudie Manning Levi; siblings, James Manning and Velma Abney.
Martha is survived by her husband of 51 years Richard “Dick” Ezell; children, Priscilla Powers Miller and husband Howard and Bill “Billy” Powers, Jr.; grandchildren, Chris, (Kenna)Phil (Krystel), Joshua, Heather and Emily ;13 great grandchildren; sister, Bed die Young and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, and 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A celebration of Martha’s life will follow at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Michael Manning and Rev. Virgil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Eddie Hensley
Robert Edward “Eddie” Hensley, 63, of Soddy- Daisy, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016. He was of the Baptist faith and worked for Pointe General Contractors for 10 years. Eddie had a heart of gold. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Delia Hensley and siblings, Ralph, Charles, Carolyn and Clifford Hensley. Survivors include his wife, Sue Hensley; children, Melissa Wells (Richard), Michelle Hensley and Cody Hensley (Gabby Schicker); grandchildren, Bradley Combee, Alissa Wells and Dylan Hensley; siblings, James Hensley (Kathi), David Hensley (Sally), Winfield Hensley (Wylene), Eva Mahan (Louis) and Dorothy Carden; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Wednesday, Janu. 6, 2016, at 7 p. m. in the funeral home chapel with his nephew, Rev. Bowman, officiating.

Carol Hodge
Carol Danielle Hodge, 53, passed away Dec. 31, 2015. She was born Sept. 22, 1961, in St. Louis Mo. Carol was very special to the people around her. She loved them and they loved her. Carol has worked for Murphy’s Gas Station, Sam’s Club and her favorite place which was Walmart. She was with Walmart for over 10 years and worked in various positions. Carol was also an organ donor.
Carol is survived by her husband of 11 years, Colin Lee Hodge; one son Rudy Sarate III who serves in the U. S. Army, and his wife Alissa; her parents, Neal L. Morris and Barbara Cento Morris; and three grandchildren, Kaylee, Isabella and Grace Sarate.
A memorial service will be held Jan. 5, 2016, at Rock Assembly Church of God (880 Cemetery Road, Dayton, Tenn.) at 2 p.m. Jay Hodge will be officiating at the services.

Roy Victor “Vic” Maddox, 75, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, in a local hospital. He was employed by the city of Chattanooga and retired after many years of service. Elaine Matthews
Elaine Harrison Matthews, 95, of Hixson, passed away Dec. 31, 2015.
Born in Paris, Tenn., she was the daughter of Cecil and Mary Harrison. After graduating from business school, she worked in the legal field until her marriage to Lt. Maurice H. Matthews in 1942. As the wife of a career Army officer, she was graduated from numerous military schools including the Army Lang uage School in Monter-rey, Calif., and the Diplomatic School in Washington, D.C. Among her varied responsibilities as an Army wife, she was president of the Fort Bliss (Texas) Officers’ Wives Club, and she held positions at the Fort Bliss Center Chapel.
While living in El Paso, Texas, Elaine was a member of the El Paso Art Association and she painted professionally for many years. Her other interests included cooking and hosting family and social events.
Elaine and her husband moved to Hixson in 1987, where she became a member of Hixson United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Maurice H. Matthews, Colonel (Ret.) U.S. Army, and grandson Michael H. Matthews.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary H. McDougal (Gary); and son, David H. Matthews (Cindy).
Additional family includes eight grandchildren, 11 great– grandchildren and one greatgreat-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at Chattanooga National Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The family wishes to express special appreciation for the loving care provided by longtime caregiver, Marilin Rodriquez, as well as numerous Hospice workers, and Mrs. Ruth Young.

Mary McCann
Mary Nugent McCann, 89, of Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 3, 2016, after a brief illness.
The daughter of John and Nellie Nugent, Mary was born in her parents’ Philadelphia, Pa., home on Nov. 15, 1926. She was raised in northeast Philadelphia and graduated from Little Flower Catholic High School for Girl s , where she developed several lifelong friendships. Her father was a highly decorated member of the Philadelphia Fairmount Park Guard and recipient of the 1930 Philadelphia Citizens Award for an amazing act of heroism.
After marrying her husband, WW II Army veteran Peter Joseph McCann, on Oct. 4, 1952, Mary moved to Haddonfield N.J., where she and Peter raised their two children and lived for 40 years. She was a full-time wife and mother until her children graduated high school, after which she worked for many years in customer service and sales, including several years for Colonial Penn Life Insurance Co. in Philadelphia. Mary was an avid bridge player and active member of Christ The King Catholic Church during her years in Haddonfield.
Mary and Peter moved to Chattanooga in 1992 to be closer to their son and grandchildren and became active members of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church.
Mary, who was affectionately referred to by her family as “Beaut” (short for Beautiful), was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She also loved to travel and was a fan of Notre Dame University and Penn State University football teams, as well as the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team. She was known by many for her kindness, soft spoken demeanor, her gentle grace and her life-long penchant for writing letters and thank-you notes.
Preceding Mary in death were her brother, Joseph, who died shortly after his birth in 1925; her father, John Nugent, who died in 1964; her mother, Nellie Nugent who passed away in 1971; and her husband of 51 years, Peter Joseph McCann, who died in 2003.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Mary Hersh (Dr. Edward) of Manhattan Beach Calif.; her son and daughter-in-law, Peter Nugent McCann (Lauren) of Chattanooga; seven grandchildren, Joanna Hersh, Michael Hersh, Elizabeth Hersh, Peter Michael McCann, Dr. Lindsay Scott (Stewart), Alex Gandara, Sarah Kunzel (Peter); and extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Christ The King Catholic Church in Haddonfield, N.J., at noon with Father James T. Curran officiating.
Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband and his family in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, Pa.

Vickie McPhetridge
Vickie McPhetridge, 53, of Chattanooga, was called to be with the Lord on Thursday Dec. 31, 2015 to be reunited with her parents, Mildred and Clarence Mooney; her children, Richie and Elizabeth McPhetridge; brothers, Mack and Jerry; sisters, Ella Mae and Gloria.
She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Richard McPhetridge; children, Laura Brumlow, Christopher (Christal) McPhetridge, Robin (David) Bates; eight grandsons and five granddaughters; sisters, Evelyn and Brinda.

Walter Turner
Walter B. “Bodie” Turner, 84, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, at his residence.
He was born in Talladega, Ala., on May 25, 1931. He retired from Mueller Company and was of the Baptist faith. He was also an exterminator by trade in the Chattanooga area.
He was preceded in death by his father, Augustus Turner; mother, Hattie Stockdale; daughter, Ida Pearl Turner; sisters, Bernice Gadston and Betty Hearn; grandson, Michael R. Austin.
Survivors include his wife (caregiver) of 57 years, Juanita Turner; son, Timothy P. Turner, Sr. of Chattanooga; daughters, Tavonia Turner (George) DeRamus of Chattanooga, and Tasha P. Austin of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren, Timothy P. Turner, Jr., Brandon Turner, Antwon Cook, Jasmine Hinton, Cory Hinton, La’Shawn Kelley, and Mikayla Austin; seven great- grandchildren, Ma’lisha Cook, Jaymia Hinton, Le’Undre Hinton, Bre’Shanti Hinton, Jzai Turner, Ca’Mora Hayes, and Jordyn Turner; two sisters, Emma Finley of Chattanooga and Mattie Stockdale of Talladega, Ala.; sisters and brothers- in- law, Lola ( Leon A.) Archie Valentour
Archie Ray Valentour, 60, of Hixson, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, in a local healthcare facility.
Archie was an avid fisherman and an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan.
Survivors include his wife, Angie Valentour, son, Archie Dustin Valentour, daughter, Lauren Rae Valentour, brother, Jeff Valentour, all of Hixson; sister, Cathy Condon, Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Taylor, Savannah, Isaiah, Matthew and Max, all of Hixson; several nieces and nephews and several dear friends.

Cynthia Varnell
Cynthia Ann Varnell, 59, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, in a local hospital. She was a 1974 graduate of Kirkman High School. She was employed at Blue Ribbon Daycare for 18 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Varnell; and brother-in-law, Timothy Harris, Sr. Survivors include her mother, Nadine Varnell; sons, Travis Varnell, Marlon Varnell, and Marcus Varnell; daughter, April Varnell; 11 grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; sisters, Terrilyn ( John) Abernathy, Tonya (Tracy) Jones, Lynda Harris, Sharon Varnell, and Rhonda Varnell; brothers, Halbert Varnell, Melvin (Lisa) Varnell, Stephen ( Andren) Varnell, Kevin (Lindsey) Varnell, and Gregory ( Wanda) Varnell, all of Chattanooga; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; dear friend, Eddie Hampton, and many others.

Charlotte Williams
Charlotte Virginia Williams, 74, of Soddy- Daisy, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 3, 2016. She retired from Durham School Services as an attendant ( 8 years) and Northside Dry Cleaners.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Rev. Robert “Bud” Williams; son, Jef f Williams; grandson, Robert Williams; granddaughter, Paula Lishk a ; par - ents, Harry and Ruby Gothard; three brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her son, Don (Cindy) Williams; daughter-in-law, Tiffany Williams ( Richard) Zawlocki; grandchildren, Jeremy Williams, April ( Charles) Tillery, Tamara (Chad) Harrelson, Rachel (Josh) Hix, John ( Kristal) Williams, Jeffrey Williams, Jr., Travis (Carrie) Williams, Ginny Williams and Baylie Williams; greatgrand-children, Benjamin Tillery, Bellasarah Tillery, Mazzy Tillery, Nathan Tillery, Anna Sophia Tillery, Dawson Hix, Autumn Hix, Arya Heyen, Zoey Williams, Taryn Harrelson, Brynn Harrelson and Mavis Williams.

Hannah Margaret Wooten, 90, of Chattanooga went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015. Hannah was a loving mother and grandmother.
Hannah was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson R. Wooten; son, Clifford Bledsoe Sr.; parents, Gabe and Ellen Sharp and four sisters and one brother.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Clifford (Kaye) Bledsoe, Jr., Kathy (Raymond) McDuffie; four great- grandchildren; four great- great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. at Advantage.

Virgil Lewis Sr.
FLAT TOP MOUNTAIN — Virgil “Amo” Lewis Sr., 87, passed away on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016. He retired from Brach Candy Company and was preceded in death by his son, Donald Lee Lewis.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mae Lewis; sons, Doyle E. (Dorothy A.) Lewis, Graysville, Virgil A. (Wanda) Lewis, Jr., Soddy-Daisy, Clyde ( Margaret) Thomas Lewis, Manchester; daughters, Delila (Lonnie) Cooper, Dunlap and Pat Rogers, Graysville and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

William Lewis
SEWANNE — William Austin Lewis, 77, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at Sewanee, Tenn.
He was born in Crossville, Tenn. on July 29, 1938, and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hayden and Susie Lewis.
He is survived by his wife, Shelva Jean Cleek Lewis; sons, Ray (Betty) Lewis and Gary Lewis; stepsons, Billy ( Janice) Caldwell, Rickey (Brenda) Caldwell and Neil ( Marsha) Caldwell; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

DUNLAP — Murriel E. Sims “Mama Murriel,” 93, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016, at her home. She had been a member of the Hwy 28 Church of God for 39 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Minnie Rogers; husband, George T. Sims; daughter, Patricia Joy Sims; grandson, David Lee Sims; brothers, Oscar, Dennis, Earl and W.L. Rogers; sisters, Bertha Everett and Pat Layne.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry Lee Sims and Roger Dale Sims; grandchildren, Sherry Sims Cagle, Michael K. Sims, Laci (Danny) Nelson and Christopher (Kelly) Sims; five great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby McGlothen; special friend, Pauline “Polly Bill” Smith; and loyal dog, Hobo.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. CST Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, in the Ewton Funeral home Chapel with Rev. Dan Rains officiating. Burial will be in Sequatchie County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4– 8 p. m. Tuesday.

DAYTON — Louise Patricia Taber, 82, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 3, 2016 at her home.
Louise was born in Grayling, Mich., on Dec. 31, 1933 to the late Charles Albert Cobb and Louise ( Tuger) Cobb. She was also preceded in death by her husband Edward Eugene Tabor, son W.M. “Dennis” Slusher, and sister Barbara DeArk, brothers Jack Cobb, W. M. Cobb, and Henry Cobb.
Louise grew up in Grayling, MI. She moved her family to Altamonte Springs, Fla., where she worked as a secretary at the Florida Hospital Laundry for 29 years. She retired and moved to Dayton in 2005.
She is survived by her two daughters Teresa Mudica, Donna Hudson, one son Douglas Slusher all of Dayton, four grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren, two sisters Mary (Walter) Stickley of Dayton, Anna ( Dan) Pierce of Dayton and one brother Albert (Arlene) Cobb of Dayton.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie Mae Hixon and a daughter, Tara Lea Stewart.
