Cleveland State hall adding 11

This year’s Cleveland State Cougar Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set for 10:30 a.m. Feb. 20 at the Cleveland Country Club, and 11 members will be added. They are baseball players Michael Jordan and Darryl Oliver, basketball players Jerry Steadman, Lawanza “Ricky” Crutcher, Debra Shipley Hill and Neasy Barrett Fitzgerald, softball player Deidra Baird, golfer Stan Sherlin, tennis player Scott Moreland, golf coach Jason Sewell and meritoriou­s service honoree Richard Murray. › Lee University had three Gulf South Conference honorees for last week’s games — Halle Davis as the softball player of the week, Trenton Hill as the baseball pitcher of the week and Haris Price as the women’s basketball freshman of the week. After helping the Lady Flames beat Alabama-Huntsville, Price had 20 points and four assists in a 75-73 win over North Alabama. Hill tripled, doubled and drove in three runs while striking out nine batters in five innings and allowing just an unearned run in one of the baseball Flames’ wins over Albany State, and Walker Valley graduate Davis homered, tripled and batted in five runs at Montevallo and then was 6-of-18 with four homers, a double and eight RBIs in the softball team’s five games in Gulf Shores, Ala.

BASKETBALL

› Covenant College split a USA South doublehead­er at Piedmont, winning the men’s game 79-68 and dropping the women’s game 78-44. In the men’s game, the Scots (13-8, 8-3) were down 34-29 at halftime and used a 28-9 run over the final eight minutes of the game to win, clinching a winning season and their most victories in the USA South since joining the conference in 2013-14. Berto Dryden tied his career high with 21 points, hitting 7 of 10 attempts from the field and making a trio of 3-pointers. He also had four rebounds, two steals and two assists. T.J. Cox added 13 points, six rebounds and four assists, Bailey Spragg scored 12 and Patjo Twagriayez­u contribute­d 10 points off the bench. Chris Boyd had a team-best nine rebounds as Covenant finished with a 41-36 edge on the boards. In the women’s game, Aleigha Williams paced Covenant’s scoring with a 16-point performanc­e as the only player in double figures for the Lady Scots (7-13, 4-8), and she also had seven rebounds and four steals. Joanna Smith led the team with eight rebounds and also had three steals and a pair of assists.

› Bryan College split its Appalachia­n Athletic Conference home doublehead­er Wednesday against Point University, winning 68-47 in the women’s game and losing 82-73 in the men’s game. The Lady Lions improved to 23-3 overall and 15-2 in the AAC, while the Lions fell to 12-12 and 6-5.

› Tennessee Wesleyan’s home doublehead­er with Union College was moved to today because of inclement weather on Wednesday in Athens, with the women’s game at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s game at 7:30. The latter will match the top two teams in the AAC. Tennessee Wesleyan (22-1, 14-1) is ranked 13th in the NAIA Division II poll, while Union (22-4, 13-1) is No. 5. Tennessee Wesleyan’s women are 11-8 and 11-6, with Union 14-10 and 9-7.
