Spring Break Safari starts Saturday

-

With no hard and fast rule for when schools schedule spring break, Chattanooga’s Spring Break Safari will stretch over four weeks, March 12-April 10, giving area families plenty of time to plot their adventures.

While on this backyard safari, kids can be:

a pirate aboard a riverboat ( the Southern Belle).

a swordfighter on a quest to see the queen (Rock City).

a conductor traveling the rails (Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum).

a speleologist exploring a cave’s mysterious chambers (Ruby Falls).

a zoologist encountering chimpanzees and jaguars ( Chattanooga Zoo).

a rock climber scaling boulders (High Point Climbing & Fitness).

a RockQuest adventurer on an enchanted trail (also at Rock City).

a Critter for a Day to learn about favorite animals (Tennessee Aquarium).

an art explorer uncovering hidden treasures (Hunter Museum of American Art).

an inventor creating new things (Creative Discovery Museum).

an engineer at the Terminal Station ( Chattanooga Choo Choo).

an artisanal adventurer learning about cooking techniques (Bluff View Art District).

Each option includes plenty of hands-on activities that play into the theme. Cost of admission varies.

Families also can explore Chattanooga on the 13- site Scavenger Hunt, a way to learn more about each attraction and different areas throughout the city. There are clues outside ( free) and inside the attractions (paid admission), as well as around the city that need to be answered and then documented by taking pictures. If you get stuck in your quest to follow the clues, you can ask someone at the attraction or check out the answers online. Kids will receive special prizes when they show images of the found items to employees at the attractions for both hunts. Keep in mind, too, that the Scavenger Hunt is available at any time of year. Prizes are available only during the Spring Break Safari.

The free Spring Break Safari Guide can be downloaded online or picked up at any of the Spring Break Safari attractions or the Chattanooga Visitors Center.
