Leggett to chair local BBB
Jay Leggett Jr., the city president of Athens Federal Community Bank in Cleveland, Tenn., has been named chairman of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) serving Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia.
Leggett, who has served on the Chattanooga- based BBB since 2005, will serve as the top volunteer for the bureau.
“It is a privilege to serve our communities and this organization in this capacity,” Leggett said. “Fostering trust and cooperative relationships between area businesses and the consumers they serve is a primary goal of the Better Business Bureau.”
The mission of the Better Business Bureau is to be a leader in advancing marketplace trust, with a vision of an ethical marketplace where buyers and sellers trust each other, Leggett said. The BBB promotes and fosters relationships between businesses and the public through voluntary self- regulation, consumer and business education.
The BBB also provides scholarships and recognizes ethical businesses with its own rating system and its annual BBB Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics.
Leggett earned his bachelor’s degree and MBA from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and also serves on the boards of Tennova Healthcare, The Rotary Club of Cleveland Foundation and Junior Achievement of the Ocoee Region.
