Day builds two-shot lead at Bay Hill

ORLANDO, Fla. — Jason Day felt like he was bearing down on each shot. He made it look much easier Friday in the Arnold Palmer Invitation­al. Day made a pair of long birdie putts and otherwise put on a clinic at Bay Hill for a 7-under-par 65 that gave him a two- shot lead over Henrik Stenson going into the weekend. “It was great,” he said. “I felt like I couldn’t do anything wrong out there.” Day was at 13- under 131. Stenson faced a daunting task — eight shots behind when he teed off in the afternoon — and he shot 31 on the back nine for a 66 to stay in the game. Justin Rose also had a 66 and was three shots behind. Former Baylor School standout Harris English missed the cut by a shot, finishing at 1-over 145 after shooting a 73 in the second round.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Twotime Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal will not play in the event this year for health reasons that have kept him from competing for an entire year. He did not specify his health problems, only that tests show “some improvemen­t.”

BALTIMORE — Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tray Walker died Friday of injuries he sustained in a dirt bike crash in Miami. The 23-year-old Walker played one season in the NFL. The Ravens said his godmother confirmed “that he had passed.” Miami- Dade Police said Walker was riding a Honda dirt bike with no lights and wearing dark clothing when he collided with a Ford Escape on Thursday night. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. A fourth-round 2015 draft pick, Walker played in eight games last season, mostly on special teams. Ravens coach John Harbaugh wrote a letter to his players Friday before Walker died. Later, in a released statement, Harbaugh said, “Tray was a young man with a good and kind heart. He was humble and loved everything about being part of the Ravens’ team. He loved his teammates — the practice and the preparatio­n — and that showed every day. ... I’ll never forget that smile.”

FONTANA, Calif. — Austin Dillon won the pole for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race, claiming the spot for the first time this season at a top speed of 188.482 mph. Dillon turned a lap in 38.2 seconds in his Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, edging Kevin Harvick by .031 of a second for his second career pole.

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. — Novak Djokovic dominated both tiebreaker­s to beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2) and reach the semifinals of the BNP Paribas Open, where he will meet Rafael Nadal in a matchup of players who have won a combined seven titles in the California desert. Nadal defeated Kei Nishikori 6- 4, 6-3, connecting on 89 percent of his first serves in the match played in 91-degree heat under a relentless sun.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Emilio Bonifacio hit his first home run for the Braves and Hector Olivera delivered again as Atlanta beat the Miami Marlins 6-5. Olivera, batting .425 this spring, drove in a run with a pinch-hit single to cap a three-run fourth inning against starter Chris Narveson. Braves starter Matt Wisler gave up two runs and three hits, including a homer over the scoreboard by Marcell Ozuna.
