Oregon State crushes Troy

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Ruth Hamblin had 18 points, 18 rebounds and five blocks as Oregon State dominated early and cruised to a 73-31 win over Troy in the first round of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament Friday.

Sydney Wiese added 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Beavers ( 29- 4), who are the No. 2 seed in the Dallas Region and have won 19 of their past 20 games. They’ll face St. Bonaventur­e in Sunday’s second round.

Kristen Emerson had nine points, eight rebounds and four block for the 15th- seeded Trojans (20-13).

Oregon State shot 42 percent compared to 16 percent for Troy, thanks in part to 6-for-7 shooting from the 6-foot-6 Hamblin. The Beavers also had 24 assists on 29 made baskets, outrebound­ed Troy 65 percent to 42 percent and outscored the Trojans 44-8 on points in the paint.

Troy scored on its opening possession of the game but shot 1- for-17 the rest of the quarter as Oregon State surged out to a 23-4 lead.

Oregon State had used every player on its roster by halftime and pushed the lead to 40-14 at the break. The third quarter ended with the Beavers ahead 54-21.

St. Bonaventur­e 65, Oklahoma State 54

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Katie Healy had 23 points and three steals to lead 10th- seeded St. Bonaventur­e’s upset of seventh-seeded Oklahoma State in another first-round matchup in the Dallas Region.

Nyla Rueter added 15 points and Miranda Drummond scored 11 for the Bonnies ( 24-7), who outscored the Cowgirls 11-5 in the final four minutes of the game.

Brittney Martin had 23 points and 13 rebounds and Sydney Walton added 13 points for the Cowgirls (21-10).

Louisville 87, Central Arkansas 60

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Myisha Hines-Allen scored 25 points to help third-seeded Louisville overcome a slow start and top Central Arkansas in the opening round in the Dallas Region.

Louisville ( 26-7) trailed the 14th-seeded Sugar Bears (28-4) — who were making their first NCAA appearance and had won nine games in a row — 25-22 after 10 minutes. The Cardinals’ 17- 0 run in the second quarter put them ahead for good.

Hines- Allen, the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year, scored 19 points in the first half on 9-of-12 shooting. She finished 12-of-17 from the field and had a team-high seven rebounds in just 23 minutes. Mariya Moore added 16 points for Louisville, which faces DePaul in Sunday’s second round.

Taylor Baudoin led Central Arkansas with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Kendra Watts scored 12 points and Maggie Proffitt had 11.

Depaul 97, James Madison 67

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jessica January scored 18 points on 7- for-11 shooting and DePaul made 11 3- pointers in a firstround rout.

Jacqui Grant added 15 points and nine rebounds for the sixth-seeded Blue Demons (268), who shot an impressive 52 percent from beyond the arc (11of-21) and 54 percent from the field (37-of-69). They led 55-30 at halftime.

Ashley Perez scored 20 points to lead 11th-seeded James Madison (27-6), which had won 20 straight games, and Jazmon Gwathmey added 19.

James Madison entered the game leading the nation in 3-point field goal defense at 23 percent.
