HAMILTON COUNTY Darlene Feagans

Darlene Feagans, 64, of Red Bank, died on Thursday, June 29, 2016, at a local hospital.

Darlene was a loving wife, mother, grandmothe­r, great-grandmothe­r and friend to many others and will be deeply missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Evelyn Queen.

Survivors include her husband, Ricky Feagans; daughters, Tammy Bureau, Shelia (Jeremy) Taylor; one son, Stacy Feagans; eight grandchild­ren; seven great-grandchild­ren; one sister, Sophie (Bo) Rogers; three brothers, Gene (Sharon) Queen, Andy (Bonnie) Queen, Butch (Rhonda) Queen and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will held on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 2, 2016, from 11:30 a.m. till the time of the service.

Jerome Hawkins

Jerome “Jerry” Hawkins, 93, of Chattanoog­a, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2016, in a local hospital.

He was employed by Mueller Company and retired after many years of service.

He was also employed by Erlanger Hospital for many years.

He was a faithful member of Westside Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud Phillip and Estella Hawkins; brother, John Calvin Hawkins.

Survivors include his wife, Willene P. Hawkins; sons, Calvin L. Hawkins, of Decatur, Ga., Algie K. (Pamela) Hawkins, of Bluefield, W.Va., Labron (Gloria) Hawkins, of Chattanoog­a, Jerome Hawkins, of Indianapol­is, Ind., and Jeremiah (Ethel) Hawkins, of Murfreesbo­ro, Tenn.; daughters, Ruby D. (Roy) Wiley, of Winston Salem, N.C., and Geraldine Brown, of Nashville; stepdaught­ers, Angela Porter, Deborah Woods, Teresa Lyons, Tawanda Lyons, and Renea Lyons, all of Chattanoog­a; 23 grandchild­ren; 41 great-grandchild­ren; nine great great-grandchild­ren; sister, Charlie Mae Sutters, of Utica, N.Y.; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.

He will lie-in-state today, after 12:30 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Saturday July 2, 2016, at noon at Westside Baptist Church, with Pastor Timothy Careathers as the eulogist.

Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.

Claudine “Peggy” Hunter

Mrs. Claudine “Peggy” Hunter, 83, of Chattanoog­a, passed away June 25, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Laney B and Beatrice Swift; aunt, Louise Lee; brother, James Swift; granddaugh­ter, Melanie Hunter; grandson, Lavagas Grundy.

Claudine P. Hunter is survived by her loving husband, Bishop W. C. Hunter; children, Charles Hunter, Raymond Hunter, Claudia Bradford, Janice Hunter Smith, all of Chattanoog­a; siblings, Katie Swift, Linda Swift, Terri Barnes, Sandra McIntosh, Ethel Johnson, Lionel Swift, David Swift and Ronald Swift; 10 grandchild­ren, 10 great-grandchild­ren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted children, and her World’s Church of Living God church family.

The funeral service will be held at Noon Saturday, July 2, 2016, at World’s Church of the Living God, located at 2110 Glass Street, where Bishop W. C. Hunter is the Pastor; with Pastor Wallace Welch is Eulogist.

Interment in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to service at the church.

Gwendolyn Jenkins

Gwendolyn Elaine Jenkins, 67, of Chattanoog­a, fell asleep in death on Friday, June 17, 2016, at her residence.

Gwendolyn was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She was a member of the Mountain View Congregati­on, in Chattanoog­a.

For 52 years, her zeal and unwavering faithfulne­ss was the foundation of her life.

She was beloved by many friends and family. Her bright smile and vivacious spirit will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric Jenkins, Sr.; her parents, Horace and Geraldine Rachell; her sister, Janice Rachell; her brothers, Peter, Johnny, Horace, and Gerald Rachell. She is survived by her children, Eric G. (Monica) Jenkins Jr., Elayna R. Jenkins, step-daughter, Erica Nowells and sister, Pamela Adamson.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home, with Ronald Brown presiding.

William C. Kennedy

William C. Kennedy, 72, a resident of Chalfont, Pa., passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, at Doylestown Hospital.

Born in Philadelph­ia, he was the son of the late Edmund and Anna Kennedy.

He is survived by his beloved life partner, Denise C. Gealer.

Also surviving are his children, Kassandra Weller and William Dyak; three grandchild­ren; six great grandchild­ren; and his brother, Joseph Kennedy.

Bill grew up in Philadelph­ia and Levittown, before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was a Philadelph­ia Police officer for 20 years, taking an active role in the FOP.

In 1982, his life changed forever when he got sober with the help of AA.

He relocated to Chattanoog­a, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree, summa cum laude, in counseling at UTC.

He was an administra­tor and therapist at several helping agencies while giving his time freely to help train and counsel many individual­s and groups of people who were serious about solving problems.

In St. Simons Island, Ga., he ran a juvenile detention facility and transforme­d it from a military model to a more successful and empowering institutio­n.

He was a gifted word-weaver, who could lull the senseless back to sanity. Returning to Philadelph­ia, he served as a clinical director at JEVS. He was instrument­al in creating the FRAT program at Livengrin.

Due to an injury in 2009, he was forced to retire from his counseling career.

Bill and Denise enjoyed exploring the U.S. and Canada, “glamping” in their RV.

He continued to actively participat­e in AA, helping countless others find the joy of living that he had found for himself.

Bill was always there to help others.

He will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bill’s Memorial Mass, 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown, Pa., where the greeting will begin at 10 a.m.

Interment with military honors will be held at 1PM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, Pa.

Larry Linam

Larry Thomas “Tom” Linam, 65, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016.

He was born in Harrison, but lived in LaFayette, Ga., for over 30 years.

He was a retired waterproof­er and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel and Lola McDaniel Linam; and brother, Herschel Lowe Jr.

He is survived by his brothers, David (Laurri) Lowe, of McHenry, Ill., Billy Joe (Leah) Lowe, of LaFayette, Ga., and Donald (Tina) Lowe, of Trion, Ga.; sisters, Donna Linam and Helen (Daniel) Newsome, both of LaFayette, Ga.; many nieces and nephews.

Carlos McClendon

Carlos Ray McClendon, 49, of East Brainerd, went home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2016, after a long battle with cancer.

A lifelong resident of Chattanoog­a, Carlos was retired from Nissan North American in 2008, due to declining health after 10 years of service.

He was an avid lover of Off Shore Boat Racing with the “Pirate Racing Team.”

and was a member of the World of Wheels.

Carlos was an active member at Grace Works Church where he enjoyed doing the church Barbeques.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Angela Levi McClendon; sons, Tucker Chase McClendon, Jacob “Jake” Mark Gilley; daughter, Kaitlin Marie Gilley; all of Chattanoog­a; father and step-mother, David and Dianne McClendon; brother, Cliff McClendon, all of Birchwod, Tenn.; uncles and aunts, Jerry (Terrye) McClendon, Donetta (Sam) Amberson, RuthAnne McClendon; Father-in-law, and mother-inlaw, Ronnie and Carolyn Levi; his dearest friends at Pirate Racing Team, Dale Avans, David, Martha and Travis Denham.

Viva Eaves Moore, 89, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016.

She was a native of Polk County but had lived in Chattanoog­a for over 60 years. She retired from Cutter Laboratori­es and was a member of Bartlebaug­h Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H “Jimmy” Moore; parents, Robert and Sara Houlk Eaves; and three sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, DeWanna Bennett, of Chesterfie­ld, S.C.; son, James Devon (Lisa) Moore, of Chattanoog­a; two granddaugh­ters; three grandsons; five great-grandchild­ren; four great-great-grandchild­ren; several nieces and nephews.

Linda Ramey

Linda Sue Ramey, of Harrison Tenn., passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at her residence. She was of Baptist faith. Linda and her husband, Terry owned Linda’s Produce of East Ridge, Tennessee.

Her passions in life were her family and her fruit stand. She was hardworkin­g and very spirited. Her bright smile and positive sense of humor would always light up the room. She was a selfless, gracious lady.

She loved to cook and serve others.

Her passion for family was obvious in everything she did. She couldn’t go shopping without picking up something for someone else. She touched the lives of many and left lasting impression­s. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, R. T. and Pauline Manning; and brothers, Richard Allen Manning and Terry Lee Manning.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Terry Ramey; children, Mark (Vanessa) Ramey, Lee Ramey, and Samantha Ramey; grandchild­ren, Allegra Ramey, Ian Ramey, Liam Ramey; brothers, Larry Wayne Manning and Robert Thomas Manning; several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Mary Frances “Granny” Taylor, passed away at St. Barnabas/Sisken West Care Facility in Chattanoog­a, on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Elmer “Blue” Taylor; her parents, Bill and Ether Herrod; brother, Billy G. Herrod (Jackie); sisters, Wilma Herrod Jones (Oren) and Bonnie Herrod Russell; brothers-inlaw, Selmer “Brownie” Taylor (Nell) and Roy Taylor (Ruby).

She is survived by one son, E. Michael Taylor (Mary Ellen), of Rising Fawn, Ga.; three granchildr­en, Michael Jason Taylor (Chrisse), of Beaver Creek, Ohio, Kimberly M. Linticum (Jason) and Mary Katherine Taylor, all of Evans, Ga.; four great-grandchild­ren, Gracie Elizabeth Taylor, Jacob Taylor Linticum, Anna Marie Linticum, and Reece Katherine Linticum; nephew, Danny Jones (Pam), Ricky Russell (Shirley); nieces, Terri Lynn Herrod Wilson, Diane Taylor Robertson (Kenneth), and Kay Taylor Wrather (Jerry); and several special cousins and family members.

Mary Frances owned and operated several hair salons.

She was an active member of Monte Vista Baptist Church in Maryville, Tenn., and Woodbury Road Baptist Church in Murfreesbo­ro, Tenn.

Lucille Witt

Lucille Eleanor West Witt, 97, went to be with the Lord at 4:15 p.m. June 29, 2016.

She was preceded in death by husband, Albert Royce Witt; her daughter, Elizabeth Joan Witt Keith; and granddaugh­ter, Rebecca Witt.

Survivors are daughters, Judith W. Hodges, of Ringgold, Ga.; sons, Michael (Christine) Witt, Jerry (Judy) Witt, Joel (Heidi) Witt, Mitchel (Cecilia) Witt; son-in-law, Ken Keith; brothers, Donald West and Dale West; sister, Margie Brown.

She also leaves behind 15 grandchild­ren, 33 greatgrand­children, and four great great-grandchild­ren, the last having been born June 16, 2016, to her first great grandchild. JASPER — Herbert “Poodle” Cooper, 86, passed away, Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at his home.

He was the owner of Cooper’s Service station for 58 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his county during the Korean conflict. He was stationed in France. He was a 50 years member of the Jasper Masonic Lodge 297.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley Herbert and Margaret Long Cooper; and brothers, Burford, D.O. and Grady Cooper

SOUTH PITTSBURG — James Albert “Sonny” Guinn, 81, died peacefully Monday, June 27, 2016, at his home.

He was the son of the late Bedford and Laura Mae Jones Guinn.

He was retired from Pittsburg Knitting Mill, where he had worked since it opened.

Mr. Guinn is survived by his wife, Jo Guinn, of South Pittsburg; two sons, James G. Guinn, of Stevenson, Ala., and Gregory Johnson, of South Pittsburg; three daughters, Teresa (Winfred) Smith, of Kimball, Tenn., Vicki (David) Duke, of Richard City, Tenn., and Joanne (Randy) Kennemore, of New Hope, Tenn.

NEW HOPE — Bettye Ann Mayfield Thomas, 76, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at a Chattanoog­a hospital.

The daughter of the late Robert Jeff and Ada Mason Mayfield, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Fannie Graham and Catherine Holder; and one brother, John Robert Mayfield.

She was a member of Holly Avenue United Methodist Church, where she had been a member of the UMW and was a vital member of the Hospitalit­y Committee.

A member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the South Pittsburg Ladies Club, she was a former employee of W.R. Grace Co. and the South Pittsburg Housing Authority, and a substitute teacher at SPES and SPHS.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald Thomas, of New Hope, Tenn.; two daughters, Terry (Chris) Woodfin, of Chapel Hill, N.C., Tina (Danny) Rich, of Stevenson, Ala.; grandchild­ren, Chase and Chelsea Woodfin, Linnzi and Brandi Rich; sisters-inlaw, Betty Sue Matthews and Rose Mayfield; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Myra Thomas.

Anna Hise

RISING FAWN — Anna Lea Moore Hise, 84, died Thursday, June 30, 2016, at her home.

Born and raised in Harrison, Tenn., Anna married the love of her life, Renn Hise, in 1961 and moved to a farm in Ascalon, Ga., on Lookout Mountain, where she was an avid gardener.

She was a member and teacher at New Lookout Baptist Church for over 40 years.

She worked for the Walker County School system, starting at Gillen School and retiring from The Department of Education in LaFayette.

Lovingly known by all as “Mamaw,” she cared deeply for the physical and spiritual well-being of her family and community.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Larry Renn Hise; and their five children; Susan Millican (Ronnie), Lief Hise (Jill), Jane Horton (Andy), Lauren Graves (Mark), and Alan Hise (Paula); her grandchild­ren, Matthew Millican, Leslie Kendrick, Megan Hise, Madeline Dudley, Hannah Ascher, Fiona Graves and Anna Graves; great-grandchild­ren, Abby Kendrick, Kaden Kendrick, Tristen Dudley; sisters, Dewey Mae (Jerry) Hanning, Louise Picklesime­r, Johnnie Van Gelderen and several nieces and nephews.

She was born in Chickamaug­a, Ga., to the late William Aubrey and Anna Lee Madaris.

She was retired from Chattem Chemical Co., in Chattanoog­a.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey M. Ferry; two great-nephews, Conner Volz and Joshua Bates.

Survivors include her son, Lee (Terri) Keller; five grandchild­ren, Katelyn, Beau, Aubrey, Madeline and Sarah Keller; and two sisters, Judith (Tom) Owens and Deborah (Tom) Ray, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Her wish was to be cremated and her ashes scattered at sea at a date to be determined by family.

ROSSVILLE — Frankie Julia Toth Williams, 98, passed away Thursday June 30, 2016.

A lifelong resident of the North Georgia and Chattanoog­a area, she was of the Church of God faith.

She was a former employee of Southern Provision and of Reid House Salad.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Nettie Chambers Toth; son, Wayne Pitts.

She is survived by her son Franklin Hodge, of Ringgold, Ga.; sister, Geneva Holland, of Lithia Springs, Ga.; brother, Al Toth, of Manchester, Tenn.; three grandchild­ren, five great- grandchild­ren, several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

FORT OGLETHORPE — James Loyd Williams, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.

He was a resident of Fort Oglethorpe for 32 years, and was of the Methodist faith. Loyd will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Gilbert.

Loyd is survived by his daughters, Pam Hodges, of Orlando, Fla., Marsha (Ray) Ballenger, of Cloudland, Ga., and grandson, Cody (Kelbi) Ballenger.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2016, in Wilson Funeral Home chapel.

Interment will follow in Geraldine Cemetery, Geraldine, Ala.
