Area RBI team in World Series
After winning the regional championship in Chattanooga this past Sunday, the Chattanooga RBI team will be one of eight in the senior baseball division (ages 16-18) of the RBI World Series Aug. 3-16 in Cincinnati. There also will be eight junior baseball (ages 13-15) and eight softball teams (19-under) at the World Series. Atlanta teams won those regional titles in Chattanooga. Also in the senior baseball division will be entries from Cincinnati; Harrisburg, Pa.; Houston; Milwaukee; Passaic, N.J.; Phoenix; and Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic. All with get at least one game in Great American Ball Park, home of the Cincinnati Reds. The Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program is 24 years old, and this is the first time a Chattanooga team has made it to the World Series.
The Harrison Express recreational baseball all-stars fell just short of the 9-yearold Dizzy Dean World Series championship last week in Southaven, Miss., losing 21-12 and 6-5 (after leading 5-2) to the Canton (Ga.) Stingers in the finals. Harrison earlier beat the Stingers 7-5.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches named four Covenant College players to the 2015-16 NABC Honors Court for academic excellence:
and The award goes to junior or senior varsity players with cumulative grade point averages of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. Arima, a three-sport athlete and double major at Covenant, and pre-engineering major Bell are two-time honorees. Bell finished his Scots career this past season while Arima and Phelps are now seniors and Twagirayezu is a junior from Rwanda.

The Bryan College women’s soccer team begins its first season under coach
on Aug. 27 at home against Freed-Hardeman, and the Lady Lions will play two other home games, on Sept. 3 against Davenport and Sept. 7 against Life, before five road contests in the next six. The home match in that stretch is on Sept. 21 against Brenau. But five of their eight Appalachian Athletic Conference games in October are in Dayton. They were 5-9-4 with four 1-0 losses in addition to the four ties last year.
