Growing Hunger

La Adelita’s menu continues to grow

-

Word around la ciudad is that La Adelita es muy delicioso.

“Business is growing and getting better and better,” said Irma Casillas, wife to La Adelita co-owner Miguel.

And as its clientele continues to expand, so does its menu.

First, La Adelita now offers two kinds of tamales: the classic tamale, wrapped and steamed in corn husks; and the regionally specific tamales Oaxaquenos (from Oaxaca, Mexico), featuring mole sauce and wrapped and steamed in banana leaves.

“We’ve finally found the perfect steak, too,” said Irma. “People think it’s weird when they ask for a steak knife and we tell them we don’t have any. You don’t need a steak knife!”

La Adelita’s new steak is showcased in recipes such as the steak and enchiladas verdes de papa, which comes with a rib-eye served alongside two enchiladas verdes; as well as the carne asada soft tacos, served with cilantro, onions and the customer’s choice of two sides.

“Across the board, the steak is so much more tender,” said Irma.

On the opposite end of the menu’s spectrum, La Adelita’s new vegetarian sopa Azteca is made with crispy corn tortilla strips in mild tomato broth and topped with avocado, queso fresco and toasted guajillo pepper, which is a mild variety of chili pepper.

“The flavor of the pepper is very distinct,” said Irma.

As is La Adelita itself. Located alongside Boynton Road in Ringgold, Ga., its massive adobe-like façade is rivaled only by its spacious interior. There is a large outdoor patio, multiple dining halls — including one available for private parties — and a full bar, specializing in craft margarita flavors such as classic, peach, mango and tamarind.

Throughout the month, La Adelita hosts live music. Or, if your hectic schedule won’t allow for kicking back with a drink and taking in a show, the eatery offers family meal packs to-go.

Options comprise meals for four or six people, and there are two available spreads: chicken or beef tacos, served with shells, pico de gallo, and rice and beans; or chicken or beef enchiladas. Either option comes with chips and salsa.

“It’s perfect for getting back into the school routine,” said Irma.

And, as the expression goes, “Comer, beber, y ser feliz!”
