One suspect killed by private citizen during police chase
Pair lead officers on pursuit through Meigs, Hamilton, Bradley counties
One man was shot and killed by a private citizen in Bradley County and another is under arrest after a Meigs County Sheriff’s Office vehicle pursuit entered Hamilton and Bradley counties Thursday.
Meigs County authorities were in pursuit of a vehicle when it crossed into Hamilton County. Hamilton County deputies joined the pursuit and the vehicle eventually entered Bradley County near Bancroft Road, according to a press release.
A Hamilton County patrol unit was damaged in a deputy’s successful attempt to stop the suspect vehicle. The deputy did not sustain any serious injuries.
Two suspects, Daniel Warren, 32, and Jeremy L. Headley, 24, were in the vehicle. Warren was arrested but Headley fled on foot.
Headley was later shot and killed by a private citizen carrying a gun at Santek Waste Services, according to James Bradford with the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office. Bradford would not confirm the identity of the man who was shot and killed, but he did confirm it was one of the suspects in the car, and Warren had been arrested before the shooting took place.
Deputies responded to the incident but were not involved in the shooting, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was called to conduct an investigation, according to the release.
Warren was charged with felony reckless endangerment by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. He has outstanding charges in Meigs County and possibly Bradley County, as well. Warren also has a warrant for desertion from the Armed Forces.
