Reality bites

-

Liberal news/commentary site Vox attempted to make a point recently about mass shootings in states with constitutionally-compliant gun laws but, perhaps, after the fact, may have learned some truths it might not have expected.

“After Sandy Hook,” the headline of the article read, “we said never again. And then we let 1,002 mass shootings happen.”

The “we,” it turned out, could have been gun control proponents.

After all, a Daily Caller News Foundation analysis showed 543 of the mass shootings listed by Vox occurred in blue states, where gun control laws are far more prevalent, while only 330 occurred in red states. Adjusted for population size, blue states have .381 mass shootings per 100,000 people, while red states only have .267 per 100,000 people.

Further, states where Democrats control the legislature were more likely to have mass shootings than states where Republicans are in charge. Using mass shootings as defined by Vox and accounting for population differences, an incident is 42 percent more likely to occur in a blue state than a red state.

One mass shooting is too many, but it’s past time anti-gun zealots consider all the facts before reacting.
