Baylor headmaster named TAIS president
Baylor School Headmaster Scott Wilson has been named president of the board of the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools (TAIS).
In his role, Wilson will work with the TAIS executive director on key initiatives and goals, with particular emphasis on the association’s strategic and long-range planning.
Now in his eighth year as Baylor’s headmaster, Wilson has spent more than 25 years working in leadership positions with independent schools. A 1975 Baylor graduate, Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Georgia while serving UGA as an admissions counselor. He returned to Baylor in 1981 to teach, coach and assist in the admission office, becoming the director of admission and financial aid in 1987. He left Baylor to expand his professional experience at Hammond School in Columbia, S.C., filling a variety of roles that included director of admission and development, boys’ basketball coach and upper school head. He completed his master’s degree in education from the University of South Carolina.
In 1997, he accepted the headmaster position at Valwood School in Valdosta, Ga., and in 2003, he was named headmaster at Brookstone School in Columbus, Ga. During his six-year tenure, the school completed a $28 million capital and endowment campaign. He was a 2006 Klingenstein Fellow at Columbia University Teacher’s College.
TAIS was established in 1973 to be the active voice and connective resource for its member schools.
