› HOW THEY GOT HERE: North Carolina, which won the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season championsh­ip and lost to top rival Duke in the league tournament semifinals, received an at-large bid to secure its seventh straight NCAA tournament appearance and 48th overall. Seeded No. 1 in the South Region, the Tar Heels beat No. 16 Texas Southern (103-64), No. 8 Arkansas (72-65), No. 4 Butler (92-80), No. 2 Kentucky (75-73) and Midwest No. 3 Oregon (77-76). Gonzaga won the West Coast Conference regular-season and tournament titles to reach the NCAA tourney for the 19th straight year and 20th time overall. Seeded No. 1 in the West, the Bulldogs beat No. 16 South Dakota State (66-46), No. 8 Northweste­rn (79-73), No. 4 West Virginia (61-58), No. 11 Xavier (83-59) and East No. 7 South Carolina (77-73).
