UTILITY FORESTER
Cleveland Utilities is seeking a Utility Forester to plan, direct, manage and coordinate the activities of tree clearance crews. This individual will be responsible for identification, cost evaluations, inspection and evaluation of trees and brush along utility lines, tree clearance work and submitting inspection reports with clearance recommendations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Patrols distribution and transmission circuits and assigns “hot spot” work to be performed by tree trimming contractor. Determines when the next trim cycle is required, notifies property owners of tree trimming and tree/brush removal work to be performed per Cleveland Utilities and ANSI specifications. Manages work and tracks progress, maps circuits, performs tree-related outage investigations, obtains permits from public agencies and documents all work.
• Audits tree trimming and tree/brush removal work completed by tree trimming contractor in the field to ensure compliance with work request forms and approved tree trimming standards. Completes post audit forms indicating adequacy of the tree trimming and tree removal work and provides reports as needed to the Manager of Electric Operations and Operations Engineer.
• Maintains working relationships with Cleveland Utilities personnel as well as all federal, state and local governmental agencies concerning vegetation management.
• Writes specifications and oversees transmission right-of-way vegetation management program including tree trimming, tree removal, herbicidal spray, mowing, bush hogging and grinding.
• Works with customers on tree trimming cycles to successfully schedule the necessary trimming work while promoting confidence and public trust.
• Works with the City of Cleveland Shade Tree Board to obtain all necessary permissions and permits to remove trees on city property or right-of-ways.
• Assists customers with the proper procedures to have private trees removed per Cleveland Utilities’ Tree Removal Policy.
• Conducts ongoing cost analysis for vegetation management programs and provides written reports to track expenses, production and savings.
• Other duties as assigned by Manager of Electric Operations/Operations Engineer.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Certification as an arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture preferred.
• Associate’s Degree required/Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Field of study in Forestry, Horticulture, Arboriculture, Conservation, Environmental, or related field.
• Experience in the electric utility industry as a Utility Forester or Arborist preferred.
• Valid driver’s license
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
• Ability to transverse uneven terrain and work during inclement weather.
