Make plans with 1885

- — Sunny Montgomery

This month 1885’s calendar is as lively as its cobblestone patio, located in the historic heart of

St. Elmo and showcasing live music every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening, and during Sunday brunch.

Outdoor dining set to local jams? That’s just a taste of the restaurant’s refreshing offerings this spring. Check out these equally appetizing upcoming events.

On Thursday, May 11 1885 will be serving oneof-a-kind cocktails at the Tennessee River Gorge’s annual fundraiser, Another Gorgeous Evening, set on the picturesque Tennessee RiverPlace. Last year the 1885 bar staff crafted a special signature Champagne cocktail for the same event, and the drink was so popular that 1885 plans to serve it again. But if you can’t make the event, don’t fret: Following the fundraiser, 1885 will begin serving the cocktail in-house.

Then Sunday, May 14 is of course Mother’s Day, otherwise known as the most popular dining-out day of the year. By necessity, 1885’s seating will be by reservation only. To reserve your table just call the restaurant.

On Saturday, May 20 is Chattanooga’s annual “Whiskey n Wings,” a delicious competition among local cooks to prepare the best wings. Last year 1885 took second place, losing to FEED Co. by just seven votes. This year 1885’s kitchen crew is already working to prepare an award-winning recipe.

Finally on Monday, May 22 the restaurant will host its next “Giveback Night,” benefiting the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit, a private nonprofit organization to which the restaurant will donate 10 percent of the day’s total proceeds. So why not order that additional appetizer or indulge in that second glass of wine?

In case you need another excuse to indulge, every week from Monday-Thursday beginning at 9 p.m. 1885 features its Late Night Cap Happy Hour, offering $5 appetizers (excluding the scallops and crabcake), $2.50 domestic bottles of beer, $3.50 well drinks and $15 select bottles of wine.

Indeed, this month is turning out to be downright delicious at 1885.
