Comey’s integrity under pressure
Many, including Democrat Sen. Diane Feinstein, have implied that former FBI Director James Comey should have confronted Trump when he said he hoped Comey would let the Michael Flynn investigation go. According to the Huffington Post, this is what happened to a U.S. attorney who refused to take what he feared would be an inappropriate phone call from Trump.
“[Preet Bharara], former U.S. attorney for the Southern district of New York, said he refused [President Trump’s] call as he considered it to be ‘an inappropriate breach of protocol’ and reported it to Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ office. The next day, the prosecutor was fired.”
It seems understandable that Comey wanted time to reflect and seek advice on how best to proceed before he confronted Trump in any way. I was amazed that Comey was able to resist doing what a weaker subordinate would have done, namely “go along to get along” until he got out of that room. Faye S. Waltler Sewanee, Tenn.
