DENVER —America’s longest-running summer television event, Shark Week, is getting the bigscreen treatment as Shark Week at the Movies hits U.S. theaters for a special premiere on Tuesday, July 18, at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are on sale for this exclusive debut, featuring a new episode from Shark Week 2017, “Return to the Isle of Jaws,” along with a fan favorite from Shark Week 2016, “Return of Monster Mako.”
Divers and scientists in “Return to the Isle of Jaws” risk their lives to unlock the mysteries of this new, great white, hot spot just south of Western Australia. They make a startling discovery that causes audiences to re-think everything we thought we knew about great whites.
“Return of Monster Mako” follows professional shark-tagger Keith Poe and marine biologists Greg Stuntz, Matt Ajemain and their team as they use stateof-the-art technology to try to document a live-predation of a 1,000-pound Mako shark.
Shark Week, in its 29th year, kicks off its television run on Sunday, July 23, at 7 p.m. Discovery Channel.
Presented by Fathom Events and Discovery Channel, Shark Week has never been experienced on the big screen with stateof-the-art surround sound, bringing audiences face-toface with the sheer force of these magnificent creatures. “This is an amazing and completely new way to experience Shark Week,” said Lara Richardson, group executive vice president of marketing for Discovery, Animal Planet and Science Channel. “Shark Week, a huge screen and hundreds of people who love sharks — what could be better?”
Shark Week brings educational and entertaining programming about sharks to TV screens across the world, focusing on conservation efforts and debunking common misconceptions. The now famous, week-long TV programming block on the Discovery Channel premiered on July 17, 1988, and now has become a pop culture phenomenon.
