Alabama defensive lineman shot in leg
Alabama sophomore defensive lineman Raekwon Davis was shot outside a Tuscaloosa bar early Sunday morning and was hospitalized with a minor injury to his leg.
The Tuscaloosa News was the first to report the incident involving the 6-foot-7, 306-pounder from Meridian, Miss.
“The victim told investigators he was standing outside of Bar 17 when he heard several gunshots and realized he had been shot in the right leg,” homicide unit commander Capt. Gary Hood told the Tuscaloosa News. “The victim was uncooperative with investigators.”
Davis, 20, was treated at DCH Regional Medical Center, according to the Tuscaloosa News.
A Rivals.com and 247Sports. com top-100 national prospect in the 2016 signing class, Davis appeared in seven games last season and tallied four tackles. He had an 8-yard sack in the 51-3 win over Mississippi State, forcing a fumble on the play.
Davis has been taking firstteam reps this month at defensive end alongside junior tackle Da’Ron Payne and senior end Da’Shawn Hand.
“Our concern at this time is for Raekwon and his health,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said Sunday evening in a statement. “While this does not appear to be a serious medical situation, Raekwon is still being evaluated.”
It is not known whether the injury will keep Davis from participating in Saturday night’s opener against Florida State in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
