Geek is chic: Fourth Cleveland Geekster is Saturday
Cleveland Geekster is returning for its fourth year with 40 vendors featuring more than 70 tables of comic books, vintage toys, art, collectibles and memorabilia. The comic con will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the gymnasium at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tenn.
“I guess the nerds have spoken,” says Rob Alderman, who founded Geekster with Ryan Faricelli and Ashley Raburn.
“When we first started Geekster, we were just trying to create something we knew we would enjoy. Turns out there are a lot of people out there just like us.”
More than 700 people attended last year’s Geekster, which Alderman believes solidifies the show as a destination gathering in the Southeast.
“Each year we have a line out the door before we even open,” adds Faricelli. “People are traveling from all over the place and having a great time. At this point, we know we are doing something right.”
The D&D Adventurers League, an official play group with experience in developing new players, will return after selling out its session last year. Participating in Dungeons & Dragons will require a fee of $1 per hour of play.
Alderman says that from its beginning, Geekster was designed to be fun for all ages, and to give families something fun to do on a Saturday afternoon.
“I grew up loving all this stuff,” said Raburn. “I loved comics and vintage toys, and I still do. We believe in family fun, and we are dedicated to keeping the event family-friendly for as long as it lasts.”
“If it’s true that Geek is chic,” said Alderman, “then we must be the coolest folks in town.”
