TWU plays Tuesday in NAIA nationals

The Tennessee Wesleyan University women’s soccer team will carry a seven-game winning streak with a 29-1 scoring margin into the second round of the NAIA national tournament. After winning 2-1 at sixth-seeded Keiser in the opening round, the Lady Bulldogs (14-4-2) will play Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. EST against The Master’s at Orange Beach, Ala. The Master’s, based in Southern California, is the No. 11 seed and edged Olivet Nazarene 1-0 last weekend. Top-seeded Martin Methodist, which nipped Bryan College 1-0 in overtime, faces Marian (Ind.) at noon EST Monday at Orange Beach.

› The Chattanoog­a Football Club has season-ticket packages available for the soccer organizati­on’s 2018 season — its 10th — at Finley Stadium, according to a recent release. Details can be found at chattanoog­afc.com, but package prices range from $79 to $249, depending on the access and merchandis­e accompanyi­ng the deals. “It’s hard to believe we are celebratin­g our 10th season,” CFC general manager Sean McDaniel said in the release. “Our fans and our community have given us such an incredible decade of soccer, and we can’t wait to show the city what’s next for CFC.” Every season-pass level will provide access to the popular jersey-reveal party.

BASKETBALL

› Undefeated LaGrange beat visiting Sewanee 64-53 in NCAA Division III women’s basketball Wednesday. Hannah McCormack had 15 points and seven rebounds and Sue Kim had 11 points, four steals and four assists for Sewanee (2-2), which got only seven points but seven rebounds, four assists and three steals from usual top scorer Bella Taylor. Lauren Johnson had 17 points and four assists for LaGrange (4-0).

› The Sewanee men lost 81-73 Tuesday night at Maryville (1-2), which was led by 24 points from Calvin Songster, 16 points, nine rebounds and four steals from Dante Hoppa and 18 rebounds with three blocks and 11 points from Emier Bowman. For Sewanee (1-3), Hunter Buescher scored 27 points with 11 made free throws in 13 tries, Adrian Thomas had 15 points and seven rebounds and Luke Smith had 11 points and five assists.

› The Bryan College women won 72-50 in their Appalachia­n Athletic Conference game Tuesday evening at Truett McConnell, but the Bryan men (5-4, 0-2) lost 79-65 to TMU despite 21 points from Oteriah Lee and 15 and 14 points and nine and 10 rebounds for E.J. Bush and Terrance Scales. For the Lady Lions (5-2, 2-1), Shayla Ludy scored 15 points, Sarah Cain had 14 points and seven rebounds, Tristan McClellan had 13 points and six assists, Karli Combs scored 10 points and Tonesha Allison pulled down 12 rebounds.

› Outscoring Brenau 25-11 in the fourth quarter, Tennessee Wesleyan’s Lady Bulldogs improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the AAC with a 68-62 home win Tuesday. Hunter Simpson led TWU with 30 points and 11 rebounds, while Madison Walkup contribute­d 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

› Reinhardt’s Lady Eagles are 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the AAC after Tuesday’s 68-57 win at Columbia (S.C.) College. Sophomore Rebecca Cheeks from Sonoravill­e had 20 points, 10 rebounds and three steals in the victory.

› The Georgia Northweste­rn athletic department presented its largest food donation yet to the Care Mission of LaFayette on Wednesday, from collection­s at the Food Drive basketball games Nov. 11 at the Rossville Athletic Center. Care Mission director Deon Phillips accepted the gifts from coach and athletic director David Stephenson and women’s basketball player Christina DeSalvo. In a GNTC release Stephenson said Phillips was “extremely grateful” and reminded the public that donations are particular­ly needed during the summer when school is out. “We started athletics at the school nearly 12 years ago to give local kids a chance to play,” Stephenson said. “This is an opportunit­y for these local kids to give back to the local community that has supported them from day one.”
