‘Funniest Man in America’ stops at Comedy Catch

- STAFF REPORT

James Gregory, the comedian dubbed “The Funniest Man In America,” stops at the Comedy Catch, 1400 Market St., for three shows on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 24-25.

Friday’s show starts at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday’s shows are 7 and 9:15 p.m. Tickets for each performance are $25.

For over two decades, Gregory has stood before audiences, shirt untucked, arms outstretched, grinning from ear to ear as he shares his hilarious reflections on life from the front porch. Much of his humor is centered on observations of crazy relatives and people obsessed with the slightest change in weather conditions – now referred to as global warming.

Friday night’s late show will be presented by Steve Mingola. Tickets for the 9:45 p.m. show are $15.

With his arsenal of characters, voices and topics, Mingola often cracks himself up during his show. His topics range from growing up in New York and then moving to Texas, to being half Italian, his younger sisters, dogs, belt dads and smoking.

He has appeared on TNN, Comedy Central and Showtime networks.

Jerry “Critter” Harvey closes out the weekend with a performance at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26. Tickets are $10.

He began his comedy career in 2004 performing for local firefighter and EMS benefits before moving up to the stage at the Comedy Catch. He won the 2010 Southeastern Funniest People Search and competed in the 2012 World Series of Comedy, making it to the semifinals.
