Evelyn Standifer
Evelyn Louise Standifer, 99, of Chattanooga, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 22, 2018.
Evelyn was born Aug. 25, 1918, in Pickens County, S.C., to Emmit and Cora Thompson. They moved to Chattanooga when she was a child. She was married to Ed Standifer on Sept. 26, 1936. Evelyn was a hairdresser for 45 years. At one time she even owned and operated two shops. She stayed active and worked well into her 80s. Evelyn enjoyed bowling and was a member of two bowling leagues. She bowled for 30 years and didn’t quit bowling until she was in her 80s. She was a member of Ooltewah Baptist Church. Evelyn also loved to travel, having been to numerous destinations such as Egypt and Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ed Standifer; parents, Emmit and Cora Thompson; three brothers, Curtis, Clyde and Clarence Thompson; seven sisters, Della Hudson; Masle Smith; Agnes Thompson, Jessie Thompson, Essie Day, Grayce Gallman; and Aline Clark.
Left behind to cherish Evelyn’s memory are her children, Bob (Linda) Standifer, Richard (Alice) Standifer, James Standifer and Linda (Norman) Rollins; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Ganelle Taylor and Alise Harrison; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Evelyn’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at 1 p.m. with Danny Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday Feb. 25, 2018, at the East Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Lakewood Memory Gardens West.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Martin Boyd and at Standifer Place.
