- STAFF REPORT

Bands on the Bluff series at Hunter Museum opens tonight

Music and food of New Orleans will set the tone tonight, May 3, for Big Easy on the Bluff, the first in Hunter Museum of American Art’s summer concert series Bands on the Bluff. The event is from 6-7:30 p.m. at the museum, 10 Bluff View.

Bands on the Bluff: Big Easy on the Bluff will kick off with a performance from MaryLovesJazz. Singer Mary Edwards and musicians Dexter Bell, Marcus Dotson and Yattie Westfield will perform a sultry mix of traditional jazz, neo-soul, R&B and funk.

The event will also showcase a painting demo and book signing by Josiah Golson, as well as hands-on activities for the entire family. Guests will enjoy beignets and wine and other drinks at a cash bar. Ice cream treats from Clumpies will be available for purchase.

This performance is presented in partnership with SoundCorps.

From 4 to 7:30 p.m. today, the museum will celebrate work done by its Education Fellows. These teachers from across the region have developed STEAM models using Hunter’s galleries. All museum visitors are invited to the studio area to explore displays and see demonstrations created by these innovative teachers and their students.

From 4-8 p.m. today, Hunter’s permanent collection is free to all guests and temporary exhibitions are just $5 (free for Hunter members or guests ages 17 and under) as part of Throwback Thursday. This program is funded by Easy Auto and Publix Supermarket Charities.
