Cinco de Mayo parties

-

Cinco de Mayo — Spanish for fifth of May — is an annual celebration to commemorate the Mexican Army’s victory over the French empire at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It should not be mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day, which is Sept. 16.

In the United States, the day has become associated with the celebration of Mexican-American culture. Here are some local Cinco de Mayo parties — and you may need a siesta after these fiestas.
