Jake Fromm’s brother commits to Auburn
The Deep South’s oldest football rivalry just got a bit more interesting for the Fromm family of Warner Robins, Ga.
Tyler Fromm, the younger brother of Georgia starting quarterback Jake Fromm, committed Saturday afternoon to Auburn’s 2019 signing class.
The younger Fromm is a 6-foot-5, 255-pound tight end and picked the Tigers over scholarship offers from Florida, LSU and Southern California. He does not have an offer from Georgia, according to 247Sports.com.
Fromm is a three-star prospect, according to 247Sports, which rates him as the No. 24 tight end nationally.
“I have officially committed to Auburn University,” he posted on Twitter, “and I am ready to get this class going.”
Jake Fromm was a top-50 national prospect in the 2017 signing class and wound up leading the Bulldogs to their first Southeastern Conference title in 12 seasons. The 6-2, 225-pounder threw for 2,615 yards with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions as a freshman, and he ranked No. 9 nationally in passing efficiency.
Auburn has seven commitments for its 2019 class, including three top-100 prospects — outside linebacker Owen Pappoe (No. 8) of Loganville, Ga., quarterback Bo Nix (No. 66) of Pinson, Ala., and receiver George Pickens (No. 97) of Hoover, Ala.
Georgia and Auburn have played a whopping 122 times, with the Bulldogs holding a 58-56-8 edge. The two teams played twice in the same season for the first time last year, with the Tigers winning the scheduled November matchup and the Bulldogs prevailing in December’s SEC title game.
Swiping from Smith
Former Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith, the first Butkus Award winner in program history, had a helmet and two jerseys taken from his car Friday in Athens. The jerseys were from the win over Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl and the loss to Alabama in the national championship game. Smith also had an iPad and headphones stolen.
“Roquan has given his heart and soul to this university,” Bulldogs inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann posted on Twitter, “and to see something like this happen is heartbreaking.”
Smith was the No. 8 overall selection in the recent NFL draft, getting picked by the Chicago Bears. He was the first SEC player taken.
