COUNTRYSIDE CELEBRATES MOM WITH Huge Giveaway

-

The irises and spring beauties may steal the roadside show this time of year, but at Countryside Cafe, simple, homemade food, and garden-fresh fruits and veggies are the real stars.

“We are getting fresh corn on the cob from Florida,” said owner Marlene Geren, adding, “Our customers love our fresh produce, and everything is so much more tastier when it’s fresh.”

In addition to the corn, seasonal options include classics such as fried potatoes with locally sourced ramps — a wild onion from the leek family. Unlike most fruits, veggies and herbs, ramps are not available in stores, said Marlene.

“Once they are gone, we can’t get them for another year,” she said.

Between the wildflowers and wild edibles, May is a special time of year in the

Scenic City — and this is especially true on Sunday, May 13.

This year, Countryside is giving away a pair of diamond earrings valued at $250 on Mother’s Day. To enter into the drawing, diners add their names into the hat each time they stop by the cafe, either to dine in or carry out. Then, next Sunday at 2 p.m., Countryside will draw a name and award the prize.

Specials throughout Mother’s Day weekend will include grilled cod, jumbo grilled shrimp and a large selection of fresh veggies — as fresh as the roadside flowers leading the way to Countryside.
