Lookouts fall to Braves, 9-4

- STAFF REPORT

Early home runs by Daniel Lockhart and Tyler Neslony helped spark the Mississippi Braves to a seven- run lead through five innings and an eventual 9- 4 victory Monday night in the final game of their Southern League series at AT&T Field.

After the league’s off day today, the Lookouts will host the Jackson Generals for five games starting Wednesday. Lewis Thorpe, who is 4-0 with a 2.01 earned run average in his last eight starts, is the scheduled starting pitcher for Chattanooga, which is 18-25 in the second half of the season and 54-58 overall.

Lockhart hit a two-run home run in the second inning and Neslony made the score 3- 0 with his homer in the third. It was 5- 0 before the Lookouts scored on a Jaylin Davis double after Luke Raley was hit by a pitch in the fourth, and the Braves added three runs in the fifth.

Neslony began that at- bat with a single, and Jonathan Morales also singled before Luis Valenzuela hit a two-out two-run double and Carlos Martinez added an RBI with a ground-rule double.

Alejandro Salazar was 3- for- 4 with a walk and Neslony, Valenzuela, Martinez and Lockhart each was 2-for-4 for Mississippi (52-62), Lockhart with three RBIs.

Five Lookouts had one hit each, and Raley scored twice. Designated hitter Davis had the only extrabase hit for the home team.
